Course Title: English II


Course Code: SS 137
Credit Hours: 4
Prerequisite: English I

Course Objectives:

This course creates the opportunity for the students to practise reading, writing and
speaking skills needed to participate effectively in business situations. They can improve
their communication skill and take part confidently in their practical life.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able:
 To read effectively every sort of reading material.
 To enrich their vocabulary and to use the appropriate diction in their writing and
speaking.
 To summarize, expand and paraphrase the text.
 To differentiate the most commonly confusing words.
 Develop effective presentation skills.

Class- norms:
i. Students are required to arrive and leave the class on time as late arrival and early
departure disturb and hurdle the performance and progress of others.
ii. Plagiarism is highly discouraged as it is assumed as an academic theft. Therefore,
one should not imitate the ideas of anyone in and out of the class.
iii. Assignment(s) should be submitted on time without plagiarism (Original), and
only such assignment(s) will be assessed and marked.

Students’ Task:
i. Weekly Vocabulary- Sharing:
Every week nominated students will share at least 10 words with their meanings and
sentences with the whole class throughout the semester. All good presenters with new and
interesting words will obtain 2 marks at the end of the semester from their presentation
marks.

ii. Extempore Speeches:


Topics on current issues and general interest will be brought in the class for extempore
speeches. This activity will be carried out on any day during the semester without
informing the students.
iii. *Final Presentation:
Before the final examination, students will be assigned topics for group presentation that
carries 6 marks.
