1.1 Introduction to the BTS3012AE Software

You need to install the following software in the BTS3012AE:
Maintenance Software
Host Software
1.1.1 Maintenance Software

The maintenance software refers to the O&M terminal software of the BTS3012AE. The
maintenance software can run on either the Site Maintenance Terminal System (for terminal
maintenance) or the remote Site Maintenance System (for remote maintenance).
The Site Maintenance Terminal System is connected to the BTS3012AE through the
man-machine interactive (MMI) port. The left part of Figure 1-1 shows the connection
for terminal maintenance.
The remote Site Maintenance System is connected to the BTS3012AE through the Abis
interface. The right part of Figure 1-1 shows the connection for remote maintenance.

1.1.2 Host Software

The host software refers to the software for the DTMU, DTRU, DDPU, NFCB, and DATU.
Functions of the DTMU Software

The DTMU software has the following functions:
Controlling the downloading of the other board software
Initializing the BTS
Monitoring and managing the BTS running status
Collecting alarms
Monitoring resource usage and tracing the interface information
Controlling the terrestrial transmission link between the BSC and the BTS

Functions of the DTRU Software

The DTRU software consists of Signal Control Processor (SCP) and baseband signal
processor.
The SCP serves as the control part of the DTRU. It has the following functions:
− Communicating with the DTMU through CBUS2
− With the cooperation with the BSC, performing radio resource management and part
of the Um interface layer3 functions
− Supporting the LAPD function of the Abis interface
− Supporting the LAPDm function of the Um interface
The baseband signal processor mainly provides the following functions:
− Coding and decoding voice, data, and signaling, and modulating received signals
− Working with the hardware circuit of the DTRU digital signaling processor to serve
as the physical layer of the Um interface
Functions of the DDPU Software

The DDPU software has the following functions:
Communicating with the DTMU through CBUS3
Monitoring the attenuation value and the running status of the DLNA receive channel
digital attenuator
Collecting and handling the DAFU internal alarms, including:
− LNAM_ALM (low noise amplifier alarm on receiving path A)
− LNAD_ALM (low noise amplifier alarm on receiving path B)
− Internal power supply alarm, clock alarm, and Sidepower alarm
Sampling the forward power (V_F) and reverse power (V_R) of the duplexer, checking
the sampled power for detecting VSWR alarms and calculating the forward power, and
then reporting the alarms
Performing power-on test and resetting
Reporting board temperature
Upgrading board software when the system is running
Functions of the NFCB Software

The NFCB software has the following functions:
Monitoring the temperature of the cabinet air inlet and the fan module frame
Controlling the fan speed
Controlling the temperature and fan speed and reporting alarms during communication
with the host
Upgrading the board software when the system is running
Functions of the DATU Software

The DATU software has the following functions:
Communicating with the DTMU through CBUS3

Collecting and handling the DATU internal alarms, which consists of:
− Internal power supply alarm
− Clock alarm
− EPLD read and write alarm
Controlling the 6-path feed switch and collecting the feed path alarms such as
undercurrent alarm, overcurrent alarm, and short-circuit alarm
Upgrading the board software online
Controlling the remote electrical tilt (RET) antenna
Performing power-on test and resetting
Upgrading the board software when the system is running
1.2 Brief Introduction to the Software Installation

The process for installing the BTS3012AE software is as follows:
Install the maintenance software
− For remote maintenance, you need to install the OMC system public module and the
OMC system O&M module.
− For terminal maintenance, you need to install only the OMC system O&M module.
Install the host software through the O&M system and then perform further operations
This manual describes the process for installing the software in a step-by-step manner. During the actual
installation, click Next or OK directly for the steps that are not mentioned in this manual.

2.1 Installation Preparations

Before installing the BTS software, ensure that the following requirements are satisfactory:

2.1.1 Hardware Requirements

The minimum hardware configuration for your software installation is as follows:
PIII 866 CPU
128 MB memory
20 GB hard disk
16 MB graphic memory
1024%768 resolution
Ethernet adapter
1.44 MB floppy drive or CD-ROM
2.1.2 Operating System Requirements

Before the software installation, make sure that you have installed one of the following
operating systems in your PC:
Windows 98
Windows 2000
Windows XP
2.1.3 Other Requirements

The other requirements are:
Support for the TCP/IP protocol
Network port
2.1.4 Software Carrier

Before the software installation, make sure that a CD ROM saving the BTS3012AE software
is available.
2.2 Installation Procedures

This section describes the process for installing the BTS3012AE maintenance software.
The process is as follows:
Installing the OMC System Public Module
Installing the OMC System O&M Module

For remote maintenance, you need to install the OMC system public module and then the O&M module.
For terminal maintenance, you need to install only the OMC system O&M module.
2.2.1 Installing the OMC System Public Module

To install the OMC system public module, do as follows:
Step 1 Run the Setup.exe under the installation directory of the OMC system public module.
The installation wizard is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-1.

After the data preparation for the installation wizard is complete, the Welcome window is
displayed, as shown in Figure 2-2.

Step 2 Click Next.

The Software License Agreement dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-3.

Step 3 Click Yes.

The Information dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-4.

Step 4 Click Next.

The User Information dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-5.

Step 5 Enter the company name, and keep the other values unchanged. Click Next.
The Choose Destination Location dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-6.

You can retain the default destination folder or click Browse to select another folder.
The name of the destination folder is a string of up to eight characters. If the string has more than eight
characters, the O&M module cannot be installed.
Step 6 Select a destination folder, and click Next.

The Select Components dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-7.

Step 7 Click Next to display a program folder.

Step 8 Select Huawei GSM-OMC, and click Next.
The Network Configuration dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-8.

Step 9 Type the IP address of the OMC-Server, and click Next.
Contact the installation and maintenance personnel for the IP address. You can modify this IP address in
the configuration file after installing the OMC system.
The Report system information configuration dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure
2-9. Keep the default setting of the IP address and port number. The IP address here is the IP
address of the OMC server. The port number is 4100.

Step 10 Click Next.

The Alarm system information configuration dialog box is displayed, as shown in
Figure 2-10.

Step 11 Click Next.

The Start Copying Files dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-11.

Step 12 Click Next to start copying files. Figure 2-12 shows the copying progress.

After all the files are copied, the Setup Complete dialog box is displayed, as shown in
Figure 2-13.

Step 13 Click Finish to complete the installation.

2.2.2 Installing the OMC System O&M Module

The installation of the OMC system O&M module is similar to that of the OMC system
public module.
The installation procedure is as follows:
Step 1 Run the Setup.exe in setup disk 1 that stores the OMC system O&M module.
The installation wizard is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-14.

After the data preparation for the installation wizard is complete, the Welcome window is
displayed, as shown in Figure 2-15.

Step 2 Click Next.

The Software License Agreement dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-16.

Step 3 Click Yes.

The Information dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-17.

Step 4 Click Next.

The User Information dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-18.

Step 5 Enter your user name and company name. Keep the default serial number. Click Next.
The Choose Destination Location dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-19.
Step 6 Set the destination folder.

You can keep the default destination folder or click Browse to select another folder.
The name of the destination folder is a string of up to eight characters. If the string has more than eight
characters, the O&M module cannot be installed.
Huawei recommends that you keep the default destination folder or the same directory as that of the
OMC system public module.
Step 7 Click Next in the Choose Destination Location dialog box.

A prompt box is displayed.
Step 8 Click Yes.
The Select Components dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-20.

Do not install the BSC BAM on the maintenance system.
To change the sub-components, click Change to display the Select Sub-components dialog
box as shown in Figure 2-21. Change the sub-components and then click Continue to return
to the Select Components dialog box as shown in Figure 2-20.

Step 9 In the Select Components dialog box, click Next.

If the OMC Shell already exists in the system, the Select Program Folder dialog box is
displayed, as shown in Figure 2-22. Go to Step 10.
If the OMC Shell is not configured, the Select Components dialog box is updated, as
shown in Figure 2-23. Select Continue, I will setup OMC SHELL after finish this
application and click Next to display the Select Program Folder dialog box, as shown
in Figure 2-22. Go to Step 10.

Step 10 Click Next.

The Network Configuration dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-24.

Step 11 Enter the IP address of the OMC-Server, and click Next.

The Start Copying Files dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-25.

Contact the installation and maintenance personnel for the IP address.

Step 12 Click Next to start copying the files.
Figure 2-25 shows all the configuration information that is selected. If you find any mistake here, click
Back to correct it.
Step 13 Click Next.

The Please Select Setup Fashion dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-26. Keep the
default settings in the dialog box.

Step 14 Click Next.

The Please Choose CGI Mode dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-27.

Step 15 Select Hexadecimal or Decimal, and click Next.

The copying progress is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-28.

After the copying is complete, the Setup Complete dialog box is displayed, as shown in
Figure 2-29.

Step 16 Click Finish to complete the installation.

2.3 Starting and Logging In to the O&M System

After installing the maintenance software, you need to start and log in to the O&M system to
check that the software installation is successful.
2.3.1 Startup and Login Operations through the Site Maintenance

System
If the OMC common maintenance module and BSC maintenance module are present in the BAM before
the BTS maintenance module is installed, menu item OMC LocalWS is available.
To start and log in to the O&M system through the remote Site Maintenance System, do as
follows:
Step 1 Choose Start > Programs > Huawei GSM-OMC > OMC LocalWS.
The Configure BAM or GPRS Host IP dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-30.

Step 2 Click Configure.

The Configure BAM or GPRS Host IP dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-31.

Step 3 Enter the name (for example, base) and IP address (for example, 10.10.10.1), and click Add.
The Configure BAM or GPRS Host IP dialog box is refreshed, as shown in Figure 2-32.

Step 4 Click Exit to complete the configuration, as shown in Figure 2-33.

Step 5 Click OK.

The User Login dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-34.

The initial user password is null.
Step 6 Click OK.

A status bar is displayed, showing that your login operation is successful.

2.3.2 Startup and Login Operations through the Site Maintenance

Terminal System
If the BSC maintenance module is present in the BAM before the BTS maintenance software is installed,
menu item SITE Maintenance Terminal System is available.
To start and log in to the O&M system through the Site Maintenance Terminal System, choose
Start > Programs > Huawei GSM-OMC > SITE Maintenance Terminal System.
The Site Maintenance Terminal System dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-30.
2.4 Configuring Directory
BTS software installation through the remote Site Maintenance System requires the configuration for a
directory, but that through the Site Maintenance Terminal System does not require directory
configuration. For the BTS software installation through the Site Maintenance Terminal System, you can
directly start with section 3.3 "Installing the Host Software through the Site Maintenance Terminal
System."
To run the public module for the first time, do as follows:

Step 1 Start the OMC
Step 2 In the status bar as shown in Figure 2-35, choose Start > System > Configure Directory.
The Configure host's directory dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-36.
The OK button is unavailable now.

Step 3 Select the version from the Directory drop-down list box, and click OK, which becomes
available after you select the version. Figure 2-37 shows that the OK button is available.

3 Installing the Host Software Software Installation Manual
3.1 Installation Preparations

This section describes the preparations that you must make before installing the host software.

3.1.1 Storage Medium

The BTS3012AE software is stored in the site maintenance terminal system or in the BAM
folder. Before the installation, apply for the host software from Huawei engineers involved in
the software installation.
3.1.2 How to Download the Host Software

You can download the software through the remote Site Maintenance System or the Site
Maintenance Terminal System.
3.1.3 Path of the Software Files

The BTS3012AE software files can be saved in any directory in a hard disk or a floppy disk.
The file name and path do not affect the software downloading or activation.
Huawei recommends that you name the software files according to the category and version
in the files. The commonly used file path is C:\OMC\BSC\BAM\dload or
C:\OMC\BSC\BAM\dload\3012AE.
3.1.4 Software Installation Sequence

The procedure for installing the host software includes software downloading and activation.
Downloading refers to the procedure for loading the software to a board. Activation means the
procedure for validating the software on the board.
Install the software in the DTMU first, and then install the software in the DTRU and the other boards.
The downloading and activation of the software for the DTRU, DDPU, NFCB, and DATU are
independent of each other.
The process for installing the host software is as follows:

Step 1 Download the latest version to the DTMU.
Step 2 Activate the version downloaded to the DTMU.
Step 3 Check that the running software version in the DTMU is the latest versions.
Step 4 Download the correct versions to the DTRU, DDPU, NFCB, and (or) DATU.
Step 5 Activate the downloaded versions of the DTRU, DDPU, NFCB, and (or) DATU.

Step 6 Ensure that the running versions on the DTRU, DDPU, NFCB, and (or) DATU are the latest
versions.

This section describes how to install the host software through the remote Site Maintenance

3.2.1 Overview of the Installation
The software should be saved in the BAM. Disable the DTMU software auto activation switch before
loading the DTMU software. You can skip this procedure when establishing a new site. After all the
board software is upgraded, enable the DTMU software auto activation switch to avoid version rollback.
To install the software, load and activate the DTMU first, and then install the DTRU, DDPU,
NFCB, and DATU.
3.2.2 Installing the DTMU Software

The process for installing the DTMU is as follows:

Disable the auto-activation function switch before loading the DTMU. You can skip this
procedure when establishing a new site.
To disable the auto-activation function switch, perform the following steps:

In the BTS Software Configuration dialog box, you can click Add, Delete, or Modify to add, delete,
or modify the information. Double-click the item to fill in or check the detailed information.
Step 5 Click Add.

The Add Configuration Item dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 3-21.

Figure 3-21 takes board software version V100R001C04SP00 as an example.

In the Software Serial No. list box, select the board to which you want to load software.
In the Software Name text box, type a complete saving path that is on the BAM and indicates the
location of the software to be loaded.

Step 6 Specify the parameters and click OK
In the Add Configuration Item dialog box, the Software Name, Active Software Version No. and
Version Time must be correct. If they are incorrect, the software loading fails.
The BTS Software Configuration dialog box is refreshed, as shown in Figure 3-22.

Add all the boards that require file index loading and configure them at a time.
Step 7 Click OK.

The index configuration is complete. The Dynamic Configuration without Command
dialog box is displayed again.

Before loading the software through the remote Site Maintenance System, ensure that the Site
Maintenance Terminal System is disconnected for five seconds so that the it has no site management
right.
To load the software through the Remote Site Maintenance System, perform the following
steps:
Step 1 Choose Start > Task > BTS Maintenance as shown in Figure 3-26.

Step 2 Select the target site (for example, chquany) from the left pane, chquany from the middle
pane, and double-click Multi-site Software Load in the right pane, as shown in Figure 3-28.

Step 3 Select the values of Site Type, Software Serial No., Version, and Site(s) to load one by one,

To activate the software through the remote Site Maintenance System, perform the following
steps:

Step 3 Click Close.

The software is activated.
The BTS initialization starts after you activate the DTMU software. The initialization temporarily
interrupts services. After all the board software is upgraded, enable the auto-activation function switch to
avoid version rollback. For details, refer to "Disabling the Auto-Activation Function Switch" in section
3.2.2 "Installing the DTMU Software."

3.2.3 Installing the DTRU Software
You can skip this procedure if the DTRU software index already exists.
To install the DTRU, perform the following steps:

Step 2 Choose User > login.

The User Login dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 3-56.

Step 3 Enter the user name and user password, and click OK.
Type Omc (case sensitive) in the User Name text box, and omc (case sensitive) in the User Password
textbox. You can also use the default password.
Step 4 In the Site Maintenance Terminal System window, double-click Site Management Right,
as shown in Figure 3-55.

site (for example, chquany) from the left pane, chquany from the middle pane, and
double-click Get Site Software Version in the right pane, as shown in Figure 3-73.
