Jana, you are masha allah a very quiet and cautious little explorer.

You tend to wait for invitation to explore an

activity but once you start it you are absolutely engaged in it and really enjoy it.

Today was much the same, I had set up playdough for the children and you waited and watched the other children
until I came to you and asked you to join us at the table. As you sat down, you quickly began to play with the
play dough by carefully poking it with your finger. It was as if you were trying to figure out if it was safe to
explore. Sure enough, once you were sure that the playdough is safe for you began to explore it furthermore.

You picked up the playdough ball in your hand, rolled the dough on the table and used the animal shapes to make
prints. Each time, you exclaimed “oh” with a huge smile on your face.

Alhamdullilah it is nice to see you trying different activities and would love to you explore your suroudings
independently. Realizing your interests, we will aim to provide you with stimulating environment where you
feel secure to explore.

Gonzalez-Mena and Eyer (2009) write that the developmental concepts of emotional security, exploration and
enquiry are basis for learning and identity formation. According to Te Whariki, strand exploration children need
to be provided with opportunities to develop confidence to choose and experiment with materials, to play
around with ideas, and to explore actively with all the senses.
