SUMMARY OF SENSITIVITY ANALYSIS

Sensitivity analysis is a technique used to indicate the sensitivity of the

process to uncertainties in the input values of the model. This aims to identify and
justify the most suitable process for the production of Acetaldehyde.
Dehydrogenation of Ethanol process, Two Stage process, and Chisso process are
the three processes that were evaluated in this analysis. Single – factor and Two –
factor method analysis were done. Single – factor sensitivity analysis was done by
changing the score of one attribute while keeping the rest at its base score. On the
other hand, two – factor sensitivity analysis was done by incrementing the score of
two attributes simultaneously. Scores were varied from 20 to 1000 for the single –
factor method, while 10 to 100 for the two – factor.

There are three main part of this section. The first part was intended for the
sensitivity analysis of the process selection. Next, was intended for the varied
attributes of the process selection. And lastly, the sensitivity analysis of the varied
attributes scores of the chosen process.

Single – Factor sensitivity analysis results indicates that the process is

slightly sensitive changes in economics including total capital investment and
annual production cost, number of intensive equipment, purity, by – products, and
operating temperature.

Results of the two – factor sensitivity analysis shows that the process were
not sensitive to changes of any two – attribute combination.

Overall, Process 1 or the Dehydrogenation of Ethanol is considered the best

process in the Production of Acetaldehyde.
