Design Brief

The residence is a place of repose, activity and utility. One uses it for daily activities, for recreational
purposes, for work. All these activities are different for the different users. Parents who work from home
have a different usage for spaces than the parents who go out to work. The grandparents and the kids have
their own set of requirement, their separate timeline for activities. The house should try to accommodate
all these needs.
The residence should be so designed as to make it one harmonious entity with interconnected outdoor and
indoor spaces.
Each design should accommodate the following uses: living; dining; sleeping; socializing; working; learning
and relaxing.

Users - 8

Adults – 4, Children – 2 are the primary users

Design Questions

Occupants:

 Who will use the building?

 What are the requirements of the users of the building?
 Are there any specific accessibility requirements?

Spaces:

 What floors / rooms / spaces are required? Indoor and Outdoor

 How would the spaces need to connect?
 Are there any specific external landscaping requirements?
 Are there any specific mechanical or electrical requirements?

Design Scope and Considerations

1. Integrated with the landscape and local topography.

2. Work / study spaces for all users, study and play rooms for kids, rest and pray area for elders,
places that will encourage user interaction. The new home needs to be responsive to the changing
needs of the households who live in them

3. A place that is sensitively integrated in the fabric of the surroundings, both physically in terms of
movement linkages as well as visually in respect of the surrounding area.

4. A place that incorporates green and sustainable choices in terms of both building and site design
opportunities in respect to energy, water and air quality considerations.

5. Use of materials and surfaces that take care of points 4 and 5.

6. A place that has a welcoming and professional look for outsiders who visit for professional
consultation
