Latoya participated in ArtReach, one of the Art Center’s outreach programs, for nine years at the Martin Luther King Jr.
Community Center’s “second time around program,” which supports grandparents who are raising their grandchildren.
ArtReach instructor Jude Odell described Latoya as “shy and quiet,” and at times afraid of the world. Latoya credits Jude
with helping her find her voice. “Most people express themselves by the way they dress or act; I express myself through
art,” states Latoya. Because of ArtReach, Latoya began to view herself as an artist, continued to participate in outreach
programs at the Art Center, and has aspirations of a career in the arts.
