O : Shock-proof standard gauge without pointer micrometer adjustment

In the case of the shock-proof models the metering gearing is protected against damages caused by
shocks of the feeling bar to guarantee the accuracy in metering.
The splash-proof gauges are equipped with a bellow preventing that moisture and dirt enter into the housing.
These gauges are additionally equipped with an upper protecting cap and a rear sealing.
Together with the special non-rotable glass ring without tolerance marks this equipment provides a very effective sealing
against oil and splash-water.
If required the gauges optionally can be equipped at a surplus price with tolerance marks.

Almost all models can be supplied in inch dimensions.

Custom-made models are manufactured according to drawings and requirements.

The RAMBOLD – hardness testing gauge MUS 221 is a handy, pocket-size precision gauge for determining the
Shore A – hardness according to DIN 53 505. It is used for testing of samples and manufactured articels made of soft rubber, caoutchouc, soft
plastics and similar plastics.

The nickel-plated, solid yellow brass housing with an outside diameter of 58 mm was taken over from the well-known and well-proven
RAMBOLD – precision gauges.
The penetrating stamp has been realized in form of a truncated cone.

In an unloaded condition the penetrating stamp stands out by 2,50 mm from the supporting surface of the hardness testing gauge.
Via a ball-bearing shaft it is connected to a metering spring. When placing the gauge onto the sample to be tested the penetrating stamp will
be pushed until the resistance force of the sample to be tested has been balanced with the reacting force.
The path gone by the penetrating stamp is proportional to the Shore hardness and is transmitted
via a metering gauge with pointer to a centesimal round stroke scale which
directly shows the Shore hardness.

Each scale spacing corresponds to a Shore-A- hardness.

During the testing procedure the hardness gauge is pressed in a vibrationless way with the prescribed pressing force of 12,5 N against
the sample to be tested until the supporting surface closely fits.
Three seconds after the supporting surface has touched the sample to be tested the hardness can be read from the gauge.
In the case of samples with distinct flow properties the hardness can also be read after a longer pressing time.

TOOTH ANGLE MEASUREMENTS

All measurements for tooth angles should be taken directly from the
square teeth as these are more reliable than when taken from the
beveled teeth.
→ Measurement should be taken with the blade held in a clock-wise
11
direction, that is, the teeth pointing to the right.
→ Place pointer (1) by using lever (2) to the 0 position
→ Depress lever (3) of the dial indicator (4) downward to lock
the measuring edge (5) in its „up“ position.
→ Loosen knurled nuts (6) and adjust the support bars (7) symmetri-
cally according to the tooth pitch. The symmetry- can be checked 12
8
by observing the markings on the guide track for the knurled nuts.
2
1
Note: The tooth to me measured must be properly positioned on the
support bar surfaces (7).
→ These surfaces must lie on the tips of the beveled teeth. The
instrument must then be pushed back so that the blade is against

Caution! Care should be taken not to scratch the cross hair of the lens. 8 Magnifying glass
→ The tooth shape will now appear in lens (8) magnified approxi-
mately 7 times.
→ Line up the horizontal cross hair (9) with the top of the tooth
using the knurled screw (11).
γ 10
→ Move the instrument sideways until the vertical cross hair (10) 10 10
lines up with the tooth point. 9

→ Adjust lever (2) until the vertical cross hair (10) lines up with the α
face of the tooth. (II) Cutting angle γ can now be read on the
angle scale (12). 9 Horizontal cross 10 Vertical cross

→ Adjust lens (2) in a downward direction until the horizontal cross
hair (9) is lined up with the top of the tooth (III). The clearance
angle α can now be read on the angle scale (12).
