1 General

1. I Definitions
1) Alstom: Employees of Alstom or its designated representative.
2) Cold drawn bar: Bar obtained, after descaling, by drawing of hot rolled bar or rod on a
draw bench, as defined by EN 10079.
3) I+T plan: lnspection and Test Plan.
4) May: This word is used to indicate a course of action permissible within the
limits of the standard.
5) Shall: This word is used to indicate mandatory requirements strictly to be
followed in order to conform to the standard and from which no deviation
is permitted.
6) Supplier: Company or factory to which inquiry or order is awarded.
7) Turned bar: Round bar produced by turning on a lathe where the product can be
further processed by straightening and polishing, as defined by EN
10079.
8) Will: This word is used in statement of fad.

Foreseen application and purpose

1) This specification covers requirements for bright cold drawn or tumed round bars
conforming to EN 10278, made of the steel specified in the purchase order, with a
diameter 200 mm or lower and with h9 tolerante on diameter.
2) Bright cold drawn or turned round bars, manufactured and delivered in accordance with
this specification, are intended to be used in Alstom's products of power production
equipment.

Categories and criticality

1) All requirements of this specification shall be fully complied with. Where permissible
deviations are given, supplier shall ensure that any value is appropriate within the
permissible deviation given.
2) It is critical to Alstom, that all required records are sufficiently established and where
defined submitted to Alstom. In case Alstom is not requesting transmittal of such records,
supplier shall ensure that such records are maintained in accordance with the terms and
conditions of the order placed andlor international legislation.

2 Material properties requirements

The material properties requirements will be provided in separate material specification.

3 Form, fit and function requirements

3.1 Dimensions
1) For detailed dimensions refer to purchase order.

 2) Round bars shall be conforming to EN 10278 with regard to permissible dimensional and
shape deviations.
3) Tolerante class h9 shall apply to the bar diameter.

3.2 Finish
1) Round bars shall have a smooth, scale free surface. Round bars, which are heat-treated
after cold processing may be discoloured or darker.
2) lmperfections shall be of such a nature or degree for the type and the quality ordered that
they shall not adversely affect the formirig, machining or fabrication of finished parts.
3) Surface finish of non-stainless steel round bars shall be in accordance with EN 10277-1,
Class 3
4) Surface finish of stainless steel round bars conforming to EN 10088-3 shall be in
accordance with Condition 2D (cold processed, heat treated and pickled).

4 Testing and verification requirements

4.1 Testing procedure
1) Unless otherwise specified by the applicable material specification or by the purchase
order, the minimum number of required tests is conforming to the applicable material
specification.
2) Dimensional and straightness compliance shall be tested in accordance with EN 10278.
3) Any requested sample material shall be included with the ordered quantity.
4) Alstom reserves the right to test for all the listed requirements.

4.2 Records of material I prformance tests

As specified in 1+T plan (if included in order, otherwise in accordance with the public standards
given in the material specification).

5 Process requirements

5.1 Specific process requirements

1) Round bars shall be delivered cold drawn or turned. Cold drawn condition is represented
by symbol +C and turned condition is represented by symbol +SH, after the applicable
steel name or steel number, as specified in EN 10278.
2) Heat treatment and further process requirements for individual materials will be provided
in separate material specifications.

5.2 Specific process monitoring requirements and records

As specified in I+T plan (if included in order, otherwise in accordance with the public standards
given in the material specification).

6.2 Order of precedenci
1) Order
The purchase order is the Summary of the specifications and instructions applying to the
delivery concemed. The purchase order may contain instructions deviating from or additional to
this specification.

Note: Unless otherwise noted herein or in the contract, in the event of conflict between the text
of this document and the reference cited herein, the text of this document takes precedence.
Nothing in this document, however, supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless a
specific exemption has been obtained.

7 Transportation and logistic requirernents

7.1 Delivery requirernents

1) Supplier shall agree the dimensions and weight of delivered materials with the ordering
unit (round bars may be supplied as manufacturing length, stock length or cut to length, as
specified in EN 10278).
2) For delivery documentation and delivery location refer to purchase order.

7.2 Marking, identification requirernents

1) Each consignment unit shall be marked in permanent writing by means of a securely
attached, non-tearing waterproof tag.
2) The following information, corresponding to the delivery documentation, shall always be
provided: material designation, Alstom material specification number, Alstom material short
name (if shown by the material specification), Alstom Power Ident. No. (e.g. NBT...P... -
for new design part lists no longer compulsory), round bars dimensions and weight of the
consignment unit.

 3) Remaining information shall be provided in accordance with the applicable material

7.3 Packaging and preservation requirements
7.3.1 Packaging
1) Each consignment unit shall comprise only round bars of the Same sort and Same
dimensions.
2) Round bars shall be packaged into bundles, adequately fastened together with padded
(Strips of cardboard etc.) steel bands.
3) Round bars 12 mm and under in diameter shall be packaged in crates. Nails shall not
protrude inside the crates.
7.3.2 Surface protection
Round bars shall be slightly oiled. Appropriate measures shall be taken for transport purpose to
protect them against moisture and mechanical damage.
7.3.3 Transportation requirement
Consignment unit shall be transported by rail or road vehicles. Unloading of the consignment
unit shall be possible without any Special effort, by means of crane or fork-lift truck. Each
consignment unit shall have a minimum of 10 cm distance above the ground, similarly
minimum 10 cm gap between the layers, supported sufficiently (wood blocks) along the whole
length, in order to avoid bending or twisting.
