Originally opened in 2014, ‘koffiespot’ is

an espresso bar and a warm and atmo-
spheric place and functions as a living
room and main coffee-supplier for peo-
ple of Jordaan. Amsterdam’s Jordaan is
probably the most famous neighborhood
in The Netherlands. It has recently devel-
oped into a strong culinary district with
some of the city’s more highly regarded
restaurants, shops and bars.

The target group of ‘koffiespot’ is most-

ly with people who work and live in the
Jordaan, but also tourists, ‘laptop stu-
dents’ and coffee lovers. During my in-
ternship at Studio Dumbar in Rotterdam
in 2016, I was asked to design a new
visual identity for this cafe.

My concept for the design was based on

calligraphy which was able to show the
new identity and main goal of ‘koffiespot’
(A café for young Amsterdam people)
which tries to be modern by keeping the
old traditions. In short words: A funky,
subtle and elegant design.
