co
Having established the garlic peel as a good adsorption medium for phenols in our earlier
studies (https://doi.org/10.1080/19443994.2014.979237) we have undertaken studies on
continuous bed adsorption column in a bid to extend the process for field applications. In

s.
this context, the garlic peels were crushed and packed in columns. Parametric studies were
carried out with reference to bed height, volumetric flow rates and influent phenol
concentration. The highest uptake of phenol from aqueous solutions in the fixed bed

l
adsorption column was observed to be 21.05 mg/g at initial phenol concentration 50 mg/L,
oo
bed height 15 cm and volumetric flow rate 15 mL/min. The regression analysis of the
experimental data indicated that the adsorption characteristics follow Yoon-Nelson model.
The results from the studies advocate that the garlic peel powder could be possibly used for
T

decontamination of phenol from aqueous waste solutions in column systems.
