COMMONWEALTH GROUP REPORT

I think the Commonwealth group report produced a very good topic/report worthy of a good
discussion from among us. Their report has substance and it’s all about local cities here in the Philippines
that helped in the economy boom.

One sentence that marks this report is the saying that “in whatever unfortunate event that
happened, there is always an opportunity waiting to be discovered ” This saying is very true in Pampanga
whose locals turned lava and ashes into something beneficial not just for the their own use but also in the
industry of building construction. Mt. Pinatubo, due to its wonders, is one of the most sought-after tourist
spot nowadays.

The recent calamity that befell Leyte also made the locals turned their misfortunes into
opportunities except for a little number of people who made abuses especially in the distribution of relief
goods and food rations. Now that they were given new lease in life in terms of new livelihood, new
fishing boats, they are starting anew, and rebuilding their houses. Everybody has a renewed spirit. Thanks
to those ‘kababayans’, NGOs, foreign aids, local and national government help that were coming their
way.

Other cities that were discussed are Bulacan, Quezon City and Bicol which has been very
aggressive into their development into a modernized and income generating cities.

A very impressive report, indeed.
