Better preparation for tests (Standardized)
Cultural Literacy

Weaknesses of teacher-centered approach:


Students may not care
Facts distracting from the work
Too many absolutes/loss of student interest
LECTURE/Difficult to stimulate student thought

Strengths of student-centered approach:


Critical Thinking (Thinking Beyond)
Whole class is engaged (if comfortable)
Gain different perspectives
Not as intimidating
Poem becomes relevant – connection to your own life
Confidence in expressing opinions

Weaknesses of student-centered approach:


Whole class may not be engaged??
Easier to “slack off” and daydream
Don’t have to necessarily read the text to participate
Some students may have trouble accepting multiple answers
