In his article “Water Scarcity, Marketing and Privatization”, Robert Glennon

(2005) explains some of the water shortage’s causes. He states that the water

supply has been depleted due to climatic factors and people’s demand.

According to Hudson et al. (2004, cited in Robert 2005), the amount of

reserved water has been decreased as a result of dehydrated rivers and

drained aquifers. Human industrial activities and overconsumption also

contribute to the cause. The author believes that the water’s profound

implication is being threatened by global’s climate change. Moreover, carbon

dioxide emissions can cause greater penetration of sunlight into the

atmosphere, therefore, increases the earth’s temperature. The higher

temperature, or the global warming, results in the reduction of the amount of

water in the reservoir and higher rates of evaporation of large bodies of water.

At the same time, the global population growth leads to an increased water

demand. For instance, the USA’s population has risen from 285 to 295 million

since 2000, not included the illegal immigration (Kelley, 2004).
