MINUTES OF THE GEORGIA PUBLIC TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2018 The January 2018 meeting of the Georgia Public Telecommunications Commission (d/b/a Georgia Public Broadcasting) was held Wednesday, February 2018 at GPB headquarters ‘ion Members Present: Ms. Jan Paul, Chair Mr. Don Doran Ms. Mary Ellen Imlay Ms. Sloane Evans Ms. Hala Moddelmog, Mr. John Stephenson Mr. Terry Wingfield Commi Staff Present Ms. Teya Ryan Ms. Tiffany Brown Rideaux Ms. Bert Huffman Ms. Liz Laprade Mr. Andrew MacCartney Ms. Tanya Ott Mr. Bill Overall Visitors Ms. Gail Evans, GPB Foundation Board Member A quorum being present, Ms. Paul called the meeting to order at 11:06 a.m. She welcomed everyone, The first item of business was approval of the proposed agenda. Ms. Paul called for a motion. Mr. Wingfield made, and Ms. Imlay seconded the motion to accept the agenda as proposed. The motion passed unanimously. The second item of business was approval of the minutes from the October 2017 board meeting, Ms, Paul called for a motion. Ms. Evans made, and Ms. Moddelmog seconded the motion to accept the minutes as proposed. The motion passed unanimously. (‘GpB President's Report GPB Radio - Ms, Ryan announced the departure of Celeste Headlee, Host of On Second Thought, Celeste is pursuing a book and a public speaking deal, Ms. Ott, VP of Radio announced that she .. Her last day will be May 30, 2018, Ms, iment. She explained the ratings of 88.5 would be leaving GPB to go back to her teaching caree Ott provided more updates regarding the radio deps Atlanta, and that sixty-four percent of listeners are loyal listeners, Ms. Ott gave a list of GPB's. top radio programs -- Morning Edition, This American Life, Weekend Edition with Scott Simon, and On the Media. 1A (First Amendment) is a new show that will be add to the radio programming, Ms. Ott made the board aware of GPB's local radio shows going on the road. Political Rewind with Bill Nigut was recently in Savannah and is scheduled to Macon. The show is also available on Facebook live stream. Ms. Ryan added that state network no longer carries classical music. The radio department is launching inal podcasts. A podcast pilot is underway with the Bitter Southerner. Digital Update - Mr. Andrew MacCartney and Mr. Bill Overall provided an overview of the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) 3.0, an industry standards consortium for digital tele system and in total will have over 1,000 pages of documentation. The standards are designed to ion. ATSC 3.0 comprises around 20 standards covering different aspects of the offer support for newer technologies. GPB External Affairs- Mr. Bert Huffman announcement PBS' new initiative — The Great American Read, hosted by Meredith Vieira, is an eight-part television and online series designed to spark a national conversation about reading and the books that have inspired, moved, and shaped us. The series will engage audiences with a list of 100 diverse books. Audiences are encouraged to read the books, vote from the list of 100, and share their personal connections to the titles. The show premieres Tuesday, May 22 with a launch special, kicking off a summer of reading and voting. Then in the fall, seven new episodes of the series will air as the quest to find America’s most beloved book moves into high gear. Episodes from the series will feature 3 ‘GpB appearances by celebrities, athletes, experts, authors, and everyday Americans advocating for their favorite book.
