So far reaching are these views that they constitute a highly controversial area of

research. I wonder if members of this forum would be prepared to consider the case for
such a viewpoint but know in advance that such things may be unacceptable to others.

That these issues are based on documentary and other evidence is not in doubt. That they
are correctly interpreted is the issue.

I am currently working on a long-term biography of Mozart which will feature some of


these claims ('Mozart and the Late Holy Roman Empire') as well as involved in
discussions on the possible production of a documentary programme on the same. In
addition, I have been a student of Mozart for the better part of 20 years and a regular
contributor to various forums on music of the late 18th century. Similar views on
Mozart's career are now held by several researchers though, of course, they are bitterly
resisted by tradition and by most other authors on the subject.
