1. Emmerson Mnangagwa has been re-elected


as Zimbabwe’s president.

2. Ajay Data has become the first Indian to


be made a member of the Country Code
Names Supporting Organisation (ccNSO).

3.  Director General of All India Radio (AIR) F.


Sheheryar was also re-elected as chair of
the executive board of  Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting
Development (AIBD). 

4.  United India Insurance Company  appointed  S Gopakumar  as its


Director and General Manager with immediate effect.

1. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh


launched ‘Mobile Tihar’, a smartphone
distribution scheme under the Sanchar Kranti
Yojna (SKY) in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

2. Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion


(DIPP)  has unveiled the tricolor logo for
geographical indication. (GI) certified
products. The logo has tagline “Invaluable Treasures of Incredible
India”. 

3.    Loksabha Speaker  Sumitra Mahajan handed over 5 croreth LPG


connection under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) in the
Parliament House. The Government launched Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala
Yojana (PMUY) on 1st May 2016 and initially, 5 crore BPL households were
targeted for providing deposit free LPG connections to BPL households by
31st March 2019.

The State of UP with 87 Lakh connection has been the biggest


beneficiary. 

1. RBI in its 3rd Bi-month Monetary Policy review


retained earlier prediction of GDP from June’s bi-
monthly statement that GDP growth for the
year 2018-19 would be 7.4%.

2. RBI has raised benchmark repo or the short-


term rate at which it lends to other banks, by
0.25 percent to  6.5  percent, Reverse repo rate
stands at 6.25%, Marginal Standing Facility stands at 6.75%.

3.    RBI has given approval to State Bank of Mauritius  to operate in the
country through a wholly-owned subsidiary route under the name  SBM
Bank (India). 

4.  National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)  is getting an


unsecured loan of Rs 25,000 crore from State Bank of India (SBI) for
10 years with 3 years of moratorium on repayments.

5. Continuing its partnership with JIO,  State Bank of India (SBI) has inked


a pact with  Reliance Jio Infocomm  to integrate its digital banking
solution Yono with MyJio application.

6. HDFC Life Insurance and Vijaya Bank signed an MoU where the bank


will sell the insurer’s products through its branches.

1.  FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO), 


launched WOW (Wellness of Women)
mobile application aimed at creating
awareness on preventive health care for women
across the country.

2. American giant  Apple has recently became


the world’s first publicly traded company to
be valued at USD 1 trillion.

3. Automobile major Tech Mahindra and Telangana government


have joined hands to launch India’s first Blockchain district
in Telangana at the International Blockchain Congress 2018.

1. An Indian-origin Australian
mathematician  Akshay Venkatesh, was
awarded the  Fields Medal  at the International
Congress of Mathematicians in Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil.

2. Dinesh Trivedi for 2016 and Bhartruhari


Mahtab for the year 2017 was awarded the
best Parliamentarian award by the President. 

3. Hindi Academy Delhi has given its highest Shalaka Samman for 2017-


18 to Bollywood lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar.

4.  Vice chairman and executive director of the Kerala Infrastructure and


Technology for Education (KITE)  K.Anvar Sadath is the first Indian to
receive the  International Contributions Award  given by  the
Association for Educational Communications and Technology
(AECT), USA.

1.  First ‘Nepal-India Think Tank’ Summit was


recently held in Kathmandu, Nepal.

2.  5th  Act East Business Show -2018 was


held in Shillong, Meghalaya.

3. Annual Joint military exercise"Maitree"


between the Indian Army and Royal Thai Army began in Thailand.

4. To crowdsource solutions aimed at future of mobility in India NITI


Aayog launched global mobility hackathon "Move Hack".

6. Earth Overshoot Day: August 01

1. Ranchi resident, Ranjit Srivastava has


developed  Rashmi, India’s first humanoid
robot, which can speak  Hindi, Bhojpuri,
Marathi and English.

2. FOCAL an app to connect cargo owners


and shippers with real-time data on the
availability of vessels was launched by the
Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI). 
3.  Delhi has toppled Gujarat from the top spot in a list of 21 states and
union territories with the most investment potential, according to a
report by economic think-tank NCAER.

4.  President Ram Nath Kovind gave his assent to the Fugitive
Economic Offenders Bill, 2018, that will prevent offenders from avoiding
legal process and escaping the country. Any offense involving 100 crores or
more will come under this bill's purview. 

5. B-Hub: country’s first hub for biotech, pharma sector will be set up
by Telangana Government. 

6. Nitin Gadkari launched 2 IT initiatives of the Road Transport & Highways


Ministry named: Bidder Information Management System (BIMS) and
Bhoomi Rashi and PFMS linkage. These are aimed at speeding up pre-
construction processes relating to bidding and land acquisition respectively.

7.  Rajasthan became the first state in the country to implement


National Policy on Biofuels. 

8.  Computer scientists from IIT, Madras have developed first of a


family of six industry-standard microprocessors under  Project
Shakti. The initial batch of 300 chips has been named RISECREEK.

1. India and Germany signed an agreement on


financial and technical cooperation, under the
agreement Germany will give nearly Rs
8,500 crores (1,055 million Euros) for the
development of India.

2. A new 3D shape called  “scutoid”  was


discovered by American and Spanish
scientists during a study on how tissues are moulded to form the skin,
cavity linings and the building blocks of organs.

3.  India was elected as President of the Asia-Pacific Institute for


Broadcasting Development (AIBD) for period of two years. 

4. According to  Bloomberg’s Japan  overtook China to become the


world’s second-largest stock market.

5. China successfully launched Gaofen-11 satellite, an optical remote


sensing satellite, as part of its high-resolution Earth observation project.

1. Women’s Hockey World Cup 2018 was


held in London.  Netherlands
women's  hockey team defeated Ireland to
lift the title.

2. Recently  Lewis Hamilton  of  Mercedes  won


the Hungarian Grand Prix.
2. World Junior Squash Championships 2018 was
held in Chennai, India.

3.  India’s  Gaganjeet Bhullar  won his first European Tour title at the
Fiji International Championship Golf Course. 

4. Biennial Asian Nations Cup Chess Tournament  was held


in Hamadan, Iran. India secured 2nd position by winning 1 Gold and
a total of 5 medals.

2. Known as eyes and ears of former PM


Indira Gandhi,    former Congress MP,
Rajinder Kumar Dhawan, passed away in
Delhi.
