I always get excited when people tell me their
Christian testimony. It doesn’t matter to me
whether they are dramatic or not. If people
believe and can express how God has
intervened in their lives, it helps inspire my
faith. I know I am not alone in this thinking,
because when we’ve had church services
which feature testimonies, you as the
congregation get excited, too! I am so glad Scott, youth leaders,
and the youth themselves were able to once again offer
testimonies on the second Sunday of August when I was away.
Several of those testimonies were from those who had never
spoken before in worship. The story they had to offer about
Jesus in their lives was too compelling for them to stay quiet!
We are a church which believes we are “A Christian Community
Where Christ is Transforming Lives” (our church vision), and if
that is truly so, we know more testimonies are lurking out there
among our congregation. We need to hear them in your own
words. We have many ways of sharing those testimonials,
including on paper in devotional form, live in worship, and on
video which can be shared in worship.
We would like to produce a simple devotional for at least part of
our commitment campaign which takes place during our focus
on the book, I Am a Church Member. If we don’t have
devotionals for every single day, it is still worth it to have your
own words which will help inspire others in the congregation. If
you would like to participate, and have something to share about
your journey of faith, please email it to:
esumctestimonial@gmail.com. We will collect them, edit them,
and publish them. By sending these to that email address, you
are agreeing to allow it to be published either on paper or
electronically. We would prefer you to focus your testimonial on
how God has transformed your life in some way, but all
testimonials will be accepted.
Here are the general rules: Please provide a scripture passage
which relates to your testimony, the actual testimonial, and a
simple one or two sentence prayer at the end. It should be about
225 words @ size 10 Arial font, which is about what will fit on a
phone screen. If you need more space than that, please break it
up into two devotionals and double it to about 450 words. Please
email it to the above email address by September 24, 2018. We
are interested in live and video testimonials as well, so please
email me if you’re interested in participating in that form of
witnessing. I look forward, and I know we all do, in hearing and
reading what God has placed on your heart!

ESUMC has a job opening for Facilities Manager.
This is a part-time position of 20 hours per week.
The hours are M-F, 8am – noon with flexibility. This
position is responsible for the management of the
physical church plant, and church owned property,
including church owned vehicles.
Responsibilities: Include overseeing and supervising
the sextons in janitorial and maintenance duties.
Oversee that the facilities and grounds are always
kept in peak condition and appearance. Ensure snow
removal is scheduled and performed timely. Maintain
and ensure all church equipment is working optimally.
Troubleshoot issues, and schedule service as
needed. Maintain manuals and service agreements
for all church equipment. Maintain records and
scheduled maintenance of all church vehicles.
Review safety and accessibility issues of the church
with the Trustees as needed. Coordinate with
Trustees that all church properties are inspected and
operating in compliance with all applicable laws and
regulations. Project and maintain the annual budget
for custodial and maintenance items. Order janitorial
and maintenance supplies. First emergency contact
for alarm systems.
Qualifications: High School diploma. Skills to
maintain a positive working relationship with staff,
volunteers, members and the community.
Organizational skills. Ability to supervise others.
Ability to understand the major components of the
physical plant and troubleshoot minor problems.
Electrical, plumbing and/or HVAC background a plus.
This is an ideal position for a retired military or
trades person.

Mission Moment
August 2018

One of the missions we support is Shores of Grace, which ministers

to young girls caught up in prostitution on the streets of Brazil. The
Billman’s work with the girls to help get them off the dangerous streets,
shelter and educate them to prepare them for a new start outside the
bondage of prostitution.

Please remember to pray for Shores of Grace in the following ways:

Divine protection wherever they walk, because the neighborhoods are dangerous
That the Holy Spirit would lead the girls to make good decisions for their spiritual and emotional health
That the staff would be led by the heart of the Father in every situation with the girls
Financial resources to invest in the restoration and education of the girls

Each year the Eastburg Community Alliance hosts a Fall Festival

and Block Party on Columbus Day Weekend. And this year, ECA will continue their tradition on Saturday, October 6th from 11am-
5pm!!! This event is sure to draw a crowd of young families and children with food venders, pumpkin painting, face painting, fall
crafts, a strolling magician and live entertainment!!! And right now, ESUMC can’t refuse being a part of this fun day!

In fact, our Outreach & Evangelism Team is currently coordinating an ESUMC booth to offer fun activities to the community FREE
of charge. To do so, we’re attempting to lock in a caricature artist, a balloon artist, a bounce house and hopefully MORE! Not
to mention, the best part is that we’re inviting YOU to join us! Come be a part of the “more” we’re looking for by considering your
hidden talents!!! We are especially interested in hidden skills like juggling, uni-cycling, face-painting, yodeling, tap dancing, etc.!
Anything that’s entertaining and fun to observe! Maybe you’re really good at carving pumpkins! Or maybe you have a clown
costume in the closet you haven’t broken out in years. Whatever your hidden talent is, we’re inviting you to share it! Please e-mail

“Are you searching for connection? Have you been
looking for a small group or a way to meet new people at
ESUMC? Maybe you’ve specifically been looking for a
Sunday morning class that would challenge and grow your
faith? If that’s you, the Discipleship Team would like to
invite you to participate in our upcoming church-wide
study!
For the first time EVER, ESUMC will be coordinating
classes and small groups for every day of the week
(excluding Fridays)!!! So whether you’re looking for
something on Sunday morning or you’re considering a
small group during the week, we have options for you and
we encourage you to check them out!

Children-Led Service
Starting this Sunday, August 26th, our Church-wide study
groups and classes open for enrollment. All classes held
on Sunday morning are open to all and have

Sunday, September 16 professional childcare available. However, please note that

our small groups have a capacity of 12 to 15 participants,
and slots are available on a first come first serve basis. As
space is limited, we encourage those looking to join a

FAITH
small group to sign up as soon as possible. We especially
encourage young parents to consider signing up for our
Wednesday night group, which meets at the Sarah Street
Grill from 5:30 to 7pm. This is the ONLY group that is
projected to provide professional childcare during the
week, so parents, don’t delay!! Programing and childcare
will be provided at ESUMC on Wednesday from 5:15 to
7:15pm (excluding Halloween, Oct. 31st).

So stop by the tables in Oberholtzer Hall to sign up for

class or group today! We believe you will be encouraged
and blessed to fellowship with other Christians while
growing your faith.
