Rating Scale – Engage Lesson (Animal Adaptations)

Scale Description
Students provided more than six adaptations per animal and could correctly
describe how these animals use their adaptations to survive in their
5 environment. Students can define what an adaptation is in their own words
as well as describing why they are important. Students work collaboratively
with others when asked to share ideas.
Students provided five-to-six adaptations per animal and could correctly
describe how each animal uses them to survive in their natural habitat.
4 Students are able to define what adaptations are and can describe why they
are important for animals. Students work well in group situations.
Students provided four-to-five adaptations per animal and could correctly
describe three adaptations for each of the animals. Students can define what
3 a adaptation is but cannot indicate why they are important for animals.
Students work well in groups.
Students provided three-to-four adaptations of each animal and could
correctly identify how two of these adaptations are used by each animal in
2 their natural habitat. Students require constant supervision from the teacher

adaptation is and why they are important for animals.
