SmartAX MA5800

Multi-Service Access Module

V100R016C00

Product Overview
The SmartAX MA5800 multi-service access module (hereafter referred to as the MA5800) is the
industry's first smart OLT that employs a distributed architecture, and is the industry’s most advanced
OLT for next-generation passive optical network (NG-PON), meeting the demand for an intelligent
access network with faster broadband, wider coverage, and smarter connection to deliver better service
experience to users.
 The MA5800 provides GPON, 10G GPON, P2P GE, and 10GE access services.
 The MA5800 supports fiber to the building (FTTB), fiber to the curb (FTTC), and fiber to the door
(FTTD) network application and can be used to converge multi-dwelling units (MDUs).
 The MA5800 supports fiber to the home (FTTH) network application based on GPON, 10G GPON,
and P2P access.
 The MA5800 can be used in the Distributed-Converged Cable Access Platform (D-CCAP) solution
by working as a D-CCAP central office (CO) device to converge the D-CCAP downstream optical
site devices.
 Functioning as a CO head-end convergence device, the MA5800 can be used to build a
heterogenous access network (HetAN) and support multiple network construction modes and
various access media to provide access for home users, mobile users, and enterprise users.

Product Description

Product Highlights
Ultra-broadband
The MA5800 uses a distributed architecture, where each service board has its own forwarding engine
for querying forwarding information base (FIB) entries and forwarding packets. Traditional OLTs utilize a
centralized architecture and are struggling with bottleneck-related issues due to limited switching
capacities. Compared with the traditional OLTs, the MA5800 leverages an industry-leading distributed
architecture to address the bottleneck issues and provide non-blocking access for high-density 10G-
PON, 40G-PON, 100G-PON, and WDM-PON application.
The MA5800 is equipped with a backplane that provides a 200 Gbit/s bandwidth for each service slot.
Each service slot of the MA5800 supports 2000 users, delivering a 100 Mbit/s bandwidth for each user
and enabling users to enjoy non-blocking 4K TV experience.
Using the distributed architecture, the MA5800 allows carriers to expand network capacities as needed,
such as the number of users and MAC addresses, and bandwidth, in this way helping carriers reduce
investments in the initial phase of network construction.

FMC-Oriented
Both the PON and P2P ports on the MA5800 support fixed mobile convergence (FMC) all-service
access, including home access, enterprise access, mobile backhaul, and Wi-Fi hotspot backhaul.
The MA5800 integrates the OLT and convergence switch into one platform and simplifies the network. It
can provide FTTH access and DSLAM/OLT/remote node convergence in one chassis, helping reduce
equipment types, CO space usage, and power consumption. In addition, the number of network fault
points is also reduced, thereby improving the network quality and O&M efficiency.
Smart
The MA5800 provides smart service capability, the hardware uses programmable network processer
(NP) chipset, thus achieving agile service deployment and providing an optimized service experience.

High Reliability
 Device: supports in-service software upgrade (ISSU) for control boards; two control boards working
in active/standby mode, and redundancy backup with dual power boards; online status detection
and online repair for boards; service overload control.
 Network side: supports link aggregation and MSTP ring network protection, ensuring non-
interrupted services.
 User side: supports GPON type B and type C protection.

Environment-friendly and Energy-saving

Complying with the European Union's (EU's) Code of Conduct (CoC) V4 standard, the MA5800
features an energy-saving design to deliver optimal power consumption, noise generation, and heat
dissipation performance. This makes the MA5800 an environment-friendly device and helps carriers
achieve minimized total cost of operation (TCO).
