JOHN HANCOCK FINANCIAL SERVICES AND FORTUNE MAGAZINE

HIGHLIGHT THE CHALLENGES MANY WORKERS FACE UNDER ELDER

CARE

Announcer: John Hancock Financial Services and Fortune Magazine have teamed up

together to highlight the challenges many workers face under elder care. Through there

research they were able to get information in regards to the impact that elder caregiving

has on Corporate America and the workplace. Here is E. James Morton, Chairman and

CEO of John Hancock Financial Services with more information.

E. James Morton: “Today there are approximately 30 million elderly persons in the

United States, representing more than 12 percent of the population. With this rapid

expansion in our country, we can anticipate the increasing numbers of employees who

will be faced with the responsibilities of working and taking care of an elderly. By the

year 2030, our current elderly population is going to double in size from today’s 30

million to more than 65 million. Our findings are a valuable first step in identifying the

scope of our concerns. It is our hope that it will be used to sharp our focus on the many

issues of an aging America to develop solutions that allow every American to grow old

with grace and dignity.”

Announcer: Results of their findings were announced earlier today at a press conference.

Re: MyHair&Me Blog Outline

This memo includes an overview for the upcoming blog I will be creating called
MyHair&Me. This blog is specifically geared towards woman of color who are
“naturalistas” and embrace their natural hair, woman whose hair type ranges from wavy
2A to coily 4C. I want to show that we can break the barriers of societal expectations
when it comes to how we as woman should have our hair. Society has implemented this
idea that in order to be beautiful and to be taken seriously we must carry ourselves a
certain way, one being with the way we decide to have our hair styled. All you ever see in
magazines, on television and in the workforce are women with long, silky and straight
hair. What about the females that look like me? Where do we go?

Content will include but not limited too:

 Different type of styles that embrace natural hair.
 Reviews on hair products that cater to “naturalistas” such as: SheaMoisture,
Crème of Nature and Carol's Daughter.
 Tips and tricks to maintain your hair.
 Monthly appreciation posts.
 Interviews with natural hair influencers, natural hair beginners and hair salons.

Other fellow natural hair bloggers:

natural beauty. Their blog covers hair, beauty and culture. Such as quick easy how-to
hairstyles, protective styling and hair facts.

Response to My Natural Sistas: “How I Stretch My Type 4 Natural Hair | No Heat +

Retain Length” post:

“Thanks for the great post India! I will definitely be trying out this method! I did my “big
chop” around March 2017. Today, my hair is a little over my shoulders but once I apply
gel or any type of curling cream it goes through some extreme shrinkage! I’m talking 4
inches shorter! This post will definitely be of great help when I want to show off my
longer length! I too have a blog that I would love if you took a look at it! Let me know
your thoughts! They would be gladly appreciated.”

Please follow up with any questions. I look forward to getting your feedback. Thank you.

FEATURE STORY ON ASHLEY TAVERAS

“Writing has always been my safe haven. There was just something about words and

being able to use them to express myself led me to the idea of following a career path that

did just that, the only problem was, I did not know what that could be. I was just a 17

year old senior in high school and here I was having to decide what I wanted to do for the

rest of my life.” said Ashley.

A native New Yorker, but a transfer from Bucknell University, Ashley Taveras

decided to apply to the City College of New York two years ago after attending a

university where she felt she could not relate and out of place. She wanted to return to her

city where she felt her self, where the opportunities were endless and people worked hard

for what they wanted.

“I wanted a major that was inclusive of all the things I enjoyed, not only do I love

to write but I enjoy being creative and I love communicating with others. That idea led

me to becoming an AD/PR major at the City College of New York, a decision I don’t

regret. This program has allowed me to create a solid understanding of two disciplines,

that long term, makes me a well-rounded communicator and competitive individual.”

The AD/PR program at CCNY provides a rigorous curriculum which explores

current theories in integrated marketing, advertising, corporate communications, public

relations, and communications management, giving Ashley the opportunity to dive in to

an array of different career paths. Ashley hopes to use her skills to become a publicist

within media or fashion and in the future, open her own firm that integrates public

relations, advertising and marketing to help brands reach their audiences effectively.

“Meeting like-minded individuals who want to be just as great as I do and being

surrounded by professors who motivate and challenge me has been one of the most

rewarding experiences of my life. The people in this program are exceptional, and the

sense of community in the AD/PR program is something I have yet to experience

anywhere else.”
