4 Lifeguard-Pool Attendant Basic Duties
DESCRIPTION:
The aim of all lifeguards is to provide adequate supervision of the day to day operations
of swimming facilities to ensure safety of Guests.
The following checklists outlines some typical tasks performed on a daily basis by
lifeguards when opening and closing the pool and when involved in supervisory duties.
OPENING:
- Check emergency telephone
- Check emergency lighting
- Check first aid kit
- Test pool water for chlorine (or bromine) residuals, pH, temperature and clarity
(record results)
- Check and put into place all safety equipment
- Test and check circuits for underwater lights if included
- Remove debris from water bottom, surface of the pool, skimmers and gutters
- Add make-up water to pool if required
- Check security of float lines, boards, ladders and slides
- Check for loose tiles or cracks in the swimming pools
- Check for loose tiles or cracks in the deck
- Read pool log entries from the previous day
- Check cleanliness of changing rooms and toilets

The Lifeguard - Lifeguard/Pool Attendant Basic Duties
Lifeguards must carry out preventative actions, rescues, and initiate other emergency
action as and when necessary.
Lifeguards may be required to give first aid to any person on the premises in the event
of an injury or illness.
