Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has won the Golden

Peacock Award 2017 for the success of its Corporate Social
Responsibility initiatives and, in particular for the
transformative work done by Reliance Foundation, the
CSR arm of the company. RIL was recognised by the
awards jury under the Chairmanship of Justice (Dr) Arijit
Pasayat, former judge of the Supreme Court.
One of RIL's key social projects, recognised by the Golden
Peacock jury, aims at impacting the livelihood of farmers
through water and food security interventions.
Under its rural transformation initiative, Reliance has
been implementing a programme called "Bharat-
India Jodo (BIJ)" that works closely with marginal and
small farmers for improving their lives and making
agriculture a first choice profession.
The fundamental strength of the programme is that it
empowers rural communities, and engages them
extensively in co-creating strategies for rural development.
The programme is designed so that the element of
sustainability is part of the plan.
While the initial engagement is aimed at land development
and water security measures, the other key interventions
under the programme promote food and nutrition security
and creating market linkages for better price realisation.
Golden Peacock Award for Corporate Social Responsibility
gives attention to social and environmental concerns in
addition to economic goals, and encourage companies to
balance financial profits, economic value addition and
social good.
The award helps organisations to rapidly accelerate the
pace of stake-holder oriented improvement process. The
Golden Peacock Awards receive over 1,000 applications
each year for various award categories. The applications
are assessed independently at three levels and then finally
by a grand jury.
