Friends, family, colleagues and a
Derby football club have paid their
own tributes to “kind, gentle and car-
ing” RAC patrolman David Stokes who
died last week when he was involved in
a collision with a car as he worked at
the roadside.
Vice-chairman of Allenton United
Football Club, Ash Delaney, has said
he will “sorely miss” the 33-year-old
who coached young players at the club
for five years.
David died while he was working on
the A617 near Rainworth, in Notting-
hamshire, on Friday while he was
recovering a car on behalf of the RAC.
Ash, 30, said that David’s death has
had a “huge impact” on the club add-
ing: “David was such a kind, gentle and
caring guy. He never wanted to be in
the limelight.
“He used to coach the under 14s in
our team and coached them
from when they were very lit-
tle. He did so much for the
family man who died doing the job he
loved. He will be missed by all. We
appreciate all of the heartfelt messages
of condolence we have received but
we’d ask people to allow the family
time to grieve at this difficult time.”

The RAC have also released their
own tribute to David, saying they will
be holding a minute’s silence in his
memory.
RAC chief executive Dave Hobday
said: “David was a dedicated, much

loved and valued member of our team
and his death has been a terrible shock
to all of us at the RAC.
“We continue to work closely with
his family and will do everything we
can to support them at this incredibly
difficult time.
“His death has sparked an enormous
reaction from colleagues, friends, other
breakdown patrols and recovery work-
ers.”
A fund-raiser has also been set up by
David’s RAC colleagues on JustGiving
in order to raise money for his family.
Nottinghamshire police said there
have been no arrests but inquiries are
still ongoing. Anyone who witnessed
the collision, any motorists who have
dash-cam footage or anyone who has
any other information about the inci-
dent is urged to call Nottinghamshire
Police on 101, quoting incident num-
ber 871 of 15 June 2018.
