Lesson 2 With New Class Resetting The Structure of The Class
Lesson 2 With New Class Resetting The Structure of The Class
Context
Last lesson was the first lesson with this new group of year 8s.
A number of disturbances impacted the running of the class such as changeover of observing mentor
and art assistant entering and leaving the classroom throughout.
Students were testing the boundaries of the class and a number of seat changes were made to
minimize disruption from the group of boys.
APST 3.6 Evaluate and Improve Teaching Programs / APST 6.3 Engage with Colleagues and Improve
Practice
Upon reflection with my mentor, it was decided that this lesson will reset the structure of the class by
implementing a seating plan (APST 4.3 Manage Challenging Behaviour) and introducing a class
expectations contract for students to sign (APST 4 Create and Maintain Supportive and Safe
Learning Environments). It has also been discussed with the art assistant to avoid this room during
this class time until further notice.
Lesson Objectives
Implement a seating plan.
Implement a class expectations contract.
Get to know students.
Continue with Elements of Art Name project. APST 2.5 Literacy and Numeracy
Check that all students have their names printed on A3 paper in bold lettering, ready to be traced.
Those who have not printed can go to the printer in pairs, once one student comes back another can
go etc. To avoid congestion and misbehavior outside of room. APST 4.2 Manage Classroom Activities
Students can use windows and light boxes to trace names on to A3 cartridge paper in led pencil.
In led pencil students can then begin decorating their names, inside and outside of the letters,
making sure to use all of the elements of art.
Once finished students can begin to add colour using coloured pencils and outline their line work
with fine line pen.
APST 3.1 Establish Challenging Learning Goals / 3.2 Plan, Structure and Sequence Learning
Programs
Early finishers: Use watercolours to do a wet on wet technique in the space around their names.
Carefully apply water in areas surrounding name, making sure not to touch their pen work, then add
dabs of watercolour onto the water, blending different colours using the brush.
Pin finished works to wall for display and eventually put in first sleeve of folder.
