LEARNING INTENTION: Students will explore the potential benefits and harmfulness of the
sun. They will investigate ways in which they can protect themselves from the sun and
how they can promote sun safety to others.
SPECIFIC LEARNING OUTCOMES:
 To develop an understanding on how the sun affects us- benefits / harms
 To develop an understanding of UV radiation and sunlight.
 To investigate ways in which to promote sun safety.

Draw a concept map listing ideas.

Development:
Elements of the sun: 10 minutes
Good / bad effects of the sun. Power point slides.
In your life have you seen any information
about sun safety? Where?
Watch slip, slop, slap, slide, shade ad.

What ways can we protect ourselves from


the sun?

Task: 20 minutes
Design a poster that we could display in the
school to help other students be aware of
the importance of sun safety.
Your poster should include the sun safety
message.

Conclusion:
Teacher to explain game/ rules, distribute 10 minutes
