The document summarizes the purpose and results of a standard proctor test to determine the optimum moisture content and dry unit weight of compacted soil. It explains that compaction reduces pore space between soil particles by pressing them together. This reduces settlement, increases shear strength, and reduces void ratio and water flow. The conclusions are that maximum dry unit weight increases with more compaction effort, while optimum moisture content decreases to some extent with more compaction effort.

The purpose of this laboratory exercise is to determine the optimum moisture
content and dry unit weight of a compacted soil using standard proctor test. However, in this activity it also includes the compaction curve data form. When soil particles are pressed together and reducing pore space between them is called soil compaction. Compaction has a purpose and one of this is to reduce settlement under working loads. If the soil was not compact there is a possibility that the building will sink. Another one is increase shear strength of soil and last is to reduce void ratio so that the flow of water in the soil will reduce.
Conclusion
1. The maximum dry unit weight of compaction is increased, as compaction effort is
increased.
2. As compaction effort is increased, the optimum moisture content is decreased to
