Letter of Interest

The Indonesian Ecolabelling Institute (LEI) is a constituent-based organization


established in 1998 that aims to promote sustainable natural resources
management in Indonesia through implementation of ecolabelling
certification. To date LEI’s constituent consisting of 140 persons of forestry
business interest, community, social and environmental NGOs and eminent
persons.

LEI serves as certification system developer, accreditation body for


certification bodies, capacity building for parties implementing LEI
certification scheme and policy advocating on sustainable natural resources
management. Currently, over 1 million hectares of forest in Indonesia has
been certified under LEI certification standard and 6 forest products
manufactures has been certified under LEI-CoC Certification Standard.

The issue proposed in Draft 1 Concept Piece 2_14_2012 of Compatibility of


Indonesia to the US Aid Policy Framework of University Engagement through
Higher Education Institutions Program of the University of Washington is in
line with LEI’s mission. LEI interested and would like to be a partner
participating in part of the program which in accordance with our capacity.
