2 JOB PURPOSE
3 PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
1 Provide technical support to the Director and the SASIG membership. Activities
include:
• Researching websites (including DeHavilland Information Services Ltd.),
hard copy, and media sources for items of aviation interest;
• Maintaining an awareness of current aviation issues/initiatives;
• Advising on Parliamentary timetables, both for England and the EU;
• Drafting technical information notes and topic-based reports;
• Drafting responses to consultations on strategic aviation topics.
2 Provide marketing and publicity support to the Director and the SASIG membership.
Activities include:
• Assisting in the production of press releases;
• Uploading reports/news items on the SASIG website;
• Producing and updating publicity materials, such as Powerpoint
presentations, printed material, etc.;
• Collating membership profiles as and when necessary to aid recruitment
and retention of member authorities.
3 Maintain content on the SASIG website on behalf of the membership.
4 Provide administrative support to the Director and the SASIG membership. Activities
include:
• Collating and despatching agendas and reports, liaising with the Local
Government Association as appropriate;
• Assisting in the preparation of reports and project documentation;
• Dealing with routine correspondence;
• Organising meetings and events;
• Maintaining electronic records and filing systems;
• Distributing mail, and arranging deliveries and couriers.
5 Submit requests for purchase orders to be raised for SASIG and ensure appropriate
availability of goods and services.
6 Coordinate with the Environment Service Finance Super Users in relation to financial
processes, implement changes as necessary, and update the SASIG Director.
Routine activities include:
• Submitting requests that orders be raised;
• Submitting requests that received goods and services be receipted;
• Producing monthly budget monitoring reports for the SASIG Director.
7 Monitor and manage SASIG’s budget, ensuring compliance with Surrey County
Council’s financial procedures, advising on the apportionment between member
authorities and seeking to increase SASIG’s membership.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of the SASIG office team, working with the

Director.
9 Familiarise, uphold and promote the aims of the council’s Equality and Diversity
policies in the course of day-to-day work.

5 WORK CONTEXT
1 SASIG is a freestanding but small organisation although the Director and the staff
based at County Hall are 'administered' by the County Council. The Head of
Environment has the oversight of SASIG and the ultimate financial responsibility,
whilst the Acting Planning Manager provides the day-to-day advice on activities such
as pay, leave and personnel issues.
2 SASIG is essentially a campaigning organisation that seeks to ensure that the Local
Authority voice is heard on all issues of aviation policy. The SASIG office team is a
small team and application of flexible working practices is essential.
3 The work is mainly office-based with occasional meetings in London, along with visits
to Local Authorities and airports around the country.
4 Routine communications will be undertaken with the SASIG Chairman, officers and
Councillors from the SASIG member Authorities, Government departments, MPs and
a wide range of local and national organisations
6 DIMENSIONS

Financial:
Delegated authority to request orders be raised for SASIG up to a value as determined by
the SASIG Director.
Non-Financial:
The post holder will deputise for the Director when necessary, and will be assisted by the
part-time Administrative Assistant.
Assist with drafting reports and attend:
• three Chairman’s Advisory Group meetings per annum;
• three full SASIG meetings per annum;
• Technical Officer Group meetings, as and when topics demand;
• any other meetings as required.
