Culture Differences of China and Philippines

Culture is the way of living that people in the society are blessed with. It is the total characteristics
of a particular group of people living in the same geographical area, defined by everything from religion,
language, social habits, music and arts. We are governed by customs and norms through culture. Culture
can be described as a perfume without smell without these customs and norms. Every state have their
own culture where human beings act uniformly and live as a society. Just like our country, Philippines, and
the country of China we all have different distinguished attitude, behaviors as well as traits that was
embodies to us because of our own culture.

Our beloved country, the Philippines, is rich in customs and traditions. Our Culture reflects the
history of Philippines through the combined cultures from the influences of foreign countries. The well-
known Filipino culture is Hospitality which became the reason why tourism in the country is steadily
growing. Tourist and foreigners honors Filipinos for serving other people the best of what they have.
Homes of Filipinos are not complete without any facility ready for guests. Filipino people are resilient,
religious, take pride in their family, help one another through bayanihan, and have the longest Christmas
celebration that starts as eraly as September. Arts, Music, and Architecture in the country are highly
appreciated by many. The Philippines is centered with different kinds of festivals which is also a cultural
diversity known as fiestas like Sinulog Festival, Silmugi Festival, Kankanen Festival and others. Music and
dnces in the country started from folk songs inspired by indigenous customs and belies to Pop Music and
traditional dance.

The national sport in the country is Arnis, a type of martial arts. Boxing is one of the most popular
sports in the Philippines with the country producing global superstar boxer and the only eight-division
champion in the world, Manu Pacquiao. Maria Clara is also known as the traditional dress worn by Filipino
women Lastly, The cuisine of the Philippines was influenced by local and foreign culture. Rice is the staple
meal and is usually prepared through steaming serve with other foods like vegetables, pork, seasfoods,
and others like lechon (roasting of a whole pig common during festivals), mechado (larded beef with
tomato sauce), and afritada (pork or chicken prepared with vegetables and tomato sauce) among other.
The country is also home to many “western” fast food franchises including Pizza Hut, KFC, and McDonald’s.

China is an extremely large country and the customs and traditions of its people vary by geography
and ethnicity. Culture includes religion, food, style, language, marriage, music, morals and many other
things that make up how a group acts and interacts. In china, a more tangible form of thank you or gift is
preferred. The gift selected to show appreciation must be appropriate in the Chinese culture, and if one
is receiving a gift, they should show proper gratitude when accepting the gift. The typical way to show
gratitude, similar to Western culture, would be a simple thank you. Chinese people tend to prefer giving
gifts in order to show their true gratitude. Their culture is known as the oldest culture. Among the main
styles of Chinese cooking are Cantonese, which features stir¬fried dishes, and Szechuan, which relies
heavily on use of peanuts, sesame paste and ginger and is known for its spiciness. Their art is influenced
by the country’s rich mystical and spiritual history like their sculptures and paints that shows spiritual
figures of buddism. Their musical Instruments are integral to Chinese culture including flutelike xun and
guqin. One important aspect of Chinese culture is Traditional Chinese Medicine, also known as TCM.
Chinese medicine has been around for quite awhile, and is still around today.

The View of Death in the Chinese Culture In the view of the Chinese common man, life on earth is but a
temporary stop on his journey to death and other reincarnations. Since death is viewed as inexorable and
inherent in the human condition, the Chinese accepts it with composure. It was a common custom in
China, especially in rural areas, for people to have a coffin ready in their houses as a preparation for death
that may come ten or twenty years in the future. While the Role of Women in Chinese Culture In
traditional Chinese culture, women were inferior to men. They were not allowed to make any decisions
concerning their families. Their only purpose in life was to stay home and take care of the households.

Culture paves way for social Intitutions to Interact. Theser are the Family, government, education,
work, and religion, among aothers. These institutions work together and their roles and functions are
interrelated with one another. Culture encompasses geographical borders. It plays a significant role in
societal formation. Philippines and China have distinct cultures and these cultures became the identity of
each countries.
