INT. CARTOGRAPHER'S QUARTERS. EVENING.

JORDEN D'LACEY is hunched over their desk, intently studying

a map with a stressed expression on their face. Their room
is small, but large enough to fit a bed, desk and a
wardrobe. The circular window is just big enough for
sunlight to illuminate their desk. The room is otherwise
rather shadowy.

The cabin is silent aside from the slow creaking of the ship
as it gently sways. A whisky glass on D'LACEY'S desk just
about manages to keep its contents as the cabin tilts from
side to side. Seagulls caw distantly.

An enchanting melody begins; slow, beautiful and haunting.

D'LACEY does not notice.

A series of dull thumps sound from above and the ship begins
to tilt. The glass on D'LACEY'S desk begins to slide across
the table. They glance up and, for a split second, watches
it curiously. The glass speeds up as the ship tilts
dangerously. D'LACEY sits up to full attention, glancing
around and, barely having time to flail, their chair sharply
falls across the floor and slams into the wall. A loud,
ominous scraping noise follows immediately behind. D'LACEY
dazedly openeds their eyes to find their wardrobe speeding
towards them.

EXT. MIDDLE OF SEA. EVENING.

Off-screen crash sound as the wardrobe hits D'LACEY.

Establishing shot of a pirate ship. A large group of pirates

are tilting the ship dangerously as they desperately reach
out to a siren. The siren, named KIRIN, is perched upon a
rock next to the ship. Her singing is a sound so enchanting
that it is compelling the pirates to try and jump ship to
get closer. Many falling to their instant demise.
EXT. PIRATE SHIP. EVENING.

A door slams open to reveal an alarmed and disheveled

D'LACEY. They take in the scene before them: Their fellow
pirates are offing themselves in the most unusual way. They
are scrambling atop one-another to jump ship like lemmings.
Curiously, each and every one of them has the same
goofy-vacant grin and dazed look in their eyes. D'LACEY is
the only pirate not affected.

D'LACEY'S eyes travel towards a beautiful maiden with a fish

tail instead of legs. She appears to be singing atop a rock,
but D'LACEY cannot hear it. They observe as the maiden
stops singing to shoo away the enchanted pirates. Her
irritated expression becomes one of discomfort as she
realises some of the pirates had survived and have begun
climbing her rock.

EXT. BETWEEN THE SHIP AND THE ROCK. EVENING.

D'LACEY walks up to the side of the ship and waves

cautiously at the siren. KIRIN is taken aback to see
somebody unaffected by her song. Hesitantly, she waves back.
D'LACEY moves to sign;

D'LACEY
DO - YOU - SIGN?

KIRIN cocks her head to the side in question, but signs back
anyway.

KIRIN
YES...

WHO - ARE - YOU?

D'LACEY
MY - NAME - IS - D'LACEY. I'M A
CARTOGRAPHER.

WHAT - IS - YOUR - NAME?

KIRIN
I - AM - KIRIN.

WHAT - HAPPENED - TO - YOUR -

EYE?

D'LACEY
(Reaching up for a moment
to touch is swollen eye
before grinning.)
I - WAS - ATTACKED - BY - A - RABID
- WARDROBE.
THE - FURNITURE - HERE - IS -
VICIOUS - THIS - TIME - OF - THE -
YEAR.

KIRIN grinned back.

They're interrupted by a hand appearing between them,

followed by a waterlogged pirate with a goofy, vacant grin.
KIRIN'S gaze darkens again. She scrunches up her nose,
extends her arm and prods the pirate on the forehead. The
look of revulsion on her face deepens as she makes contact.

A wide shot of the pirate falling uselessly from the rock to

his death.

KIRIN catches D'LACEY'S eye and her face turns to panic.

KIRIN
SORRY. HE - WASN'T - A - FRIEND -
WAS - HE?
3.

D'LACEY
(Shaking his head)
NO. ACTUALLY - HE - TRIED - TO -
MURDER - ME - ONCE.

KIRIN
(With a look of
confusion.)
YOU - PIRATES - ARE - STRANGE -
CREATURES.

D'LACEY
(Shruggs, grinning)
YOU - SING?

KIRIN
YES - I... WELL - I - LIKE - TO -
BUT...

D'LACEY
BUT?

KIRIN
BUT - THIS-
(Kirin gestures to the
enchanted pirates)
HAPPENS.

D'LACEY
WELL... IF - IT - HELPS - YOU -
KIND - OF - SAVED - ME.

I - WAS - FORCED - INTO - THIS.

D'LACEY pauses, biting his lip looking a little shy.

D'LACEY (CON'T)
ALSO... I'M - SURE - YOUR - VOICE -
IS - AS - BEAUTIFUL - AS - YOUR -
SMILE.

KIRIN
(blushy and bashfull)
THANK - YOU.

YOU - ARE - SUCH - A - NICE - BOY.

D'LACEY
(Looking a little
awkward)
I'M - NOT - A - BOY.

I - MEAN... I'M - AGENDER.

KIRIN
(Fumbling )
SORRY! I - DIDN'T - MEAN-

4.

KIRIN (cont'd)
IF - IT - HELPS - I - AM -
PANSEXUAL?

ALSO - I... I - MEAN - I -

KIRIN stops and pouts, visually struggling with herself.

After a brief moment, she brightens with an idea.

KIRIN (CON'T)
WAIT.

KIRIN dives off the rock and into the sea below. D'LACEY
watches the water where she vanished, a dead pirate floating
along the ripples.

After a short moment, KIRIN resurfaces holding bouquet of

aquatic flowers. She hops back on her rock and D'LACEY
watches her climb back up. At the top, KIRIN thrusts the
bouquet out to offer it to D'LACEY, flused and out of
breath, but smiling.

D'LACEY bashfully smiles and accepts the flowers. KIRIN

moves to sign;

KIRIN (CON'T)
WOULD - YOU - LIKE - TO - GO - OUT
- WITH - ME?

D'LACEY, holding the bouquet, smiles wider and nods.
