“TOUCHSTONE 2010”

(A National ‘Case Study Writing Competition’)

Introduction-

Amity Business School’s commitment to bring excellence in management education and

promotion of intellectual capital in all spheres of social sciences, a national case study
writing competition ‘Touchstone’ has been organized at the sprawling lush green 153
acre Amity University’s world class campus on November, 15th & 16th ,2010.

We invite original case studies duly developed and based on field research or data being
collected from authentic sources with proper citations and references. The case could
relate to one or multiple themes of Marketing Management, HR Management,
Operational Management, Financial Management and Strategic Management.

It is to be recognized that the ‘case study method’ differs from the traditional teaching
methods for it requires the students to play an active part and therefore instructors,
whether from academia or industry, shoulder an additional responsibility of enhancing
student’s participation. Cases are very effective instructional tools and are telling a story,
reflect problem situations in real life and create an authentic learning environment for
learners. The students when engaged with cases, learning takes place: they analyze,
synthesize and apply knowledge; they also perform evaluation, reasoning and problem
solving.

The primary assumption, which is to an extent quite true also is that one can not
effectively lead case discussion in the class unless he or she is exposed to real life
business and behavioral dynamics one comes across when developing and writing cases.
At the same time it puts a daunting challenge before the faculties as sometimes they find
it difficult to introduce this method due to many reasons. This competition provides a
platform to faculties to present their self developed and written cases. It also becomes
important on the part of a teacher to use this opportunity for improving the interest level
of the students and hone their analytical and creative skills.

.The contest focuses on pooling in think tanks from elite universities and institutions,
research scholars and senior managers from the different industries to provide stimulating
environment for knowledge, exchange of ideas and learning. It is needless to mention that
Amity University Rajasthan provides an excellent platform and opportunity to all who
wish to end their intellectual fasting.
