ASSIGNMENT - I
CLASS – CSE – D

CONICS
1. Draw the locus of a point P moving so that the ratio of the distance from a fixed point F
to its distance from a fixed straight line is 2/3. Point F is at a distance of 60 mm from the
fixed straight line. Also draw a tangent and normal to the curve.
2. Construct a parabola given the distance of focus from the directrix is 60 mm. Also draw a
tangent and normal at any point on it.
3. Construct a hyperbola when the distance between the focus and directrix is 40mm and the
eccentricity is 4/3. Draw the tangent and normal at any point on the hyperbola.
4. Draw a hyperbola when the distance of the focus from the directrix is 70mm and the
eccentricity is 1.5. Draw the tangent and normal to the curve at a point P distance 50mm
from the directrix.
5. The eccentricity of the curve is 5/3. The distance from the focus to the vertex of the curve
is 30 mm. Draw the curve and also draw tangent and normal for any one point on the
circumference on the curve.
6. The vertex of a hyperbola is 65 mm from its focus. Draw the curve if the eccentricity is
3/2. Draw a normal and a tangent at a point on the curve.
CYCLOID
7. A coin of diameter 50mm is rolling on a horizontal surface of a table without slipping.
Draw the path traced by a point on the circumference of the coin for one revolution and
name the curve. Also draw a tangent and normal to any point on the curve.
8. A circle of 50 mm rolls on straight line clock wise for 1 ½ revolutions. Draw the path
traced by a point P on the circumference of the circle.
9. Construct a hypocycloid when the diameters of the rolling circle and directing circle are
50 mm and 200 mm respectively. Draw also a normal and tangent at a point 80 mm from
the centre of the directing circle.
10. A circus man rides a motor bike inside a globe of 6 m diameter. The motor bike has the
wheel of 1 m diameter. Draw the locus of the point on the circumference of the motor
bike wheel for one complete revolution. Adopt suitable scale.
INVOLUTE
11. Draw an involute of square of side 40 mm. Draw a tangent and normal at any point on the
curve.
12. Draw the involute of a circle of 40 mm diameter. Also draw a tangent and normal to the
curve at a point 95 mm from the centre of the circle.
13. A coir is unwound from a drum of 30 mm diameter. Draw the locus of the free end of the
coir for unwinding through an angle of 360. Draw also a normal and tangent at any point
on the curve.
14. An inelastic string of length of 150 mm has one of its ends attached to the circumference
of a circular disc of 40 mm diameter. Draw the curve traced by the other end of the string
when it is completely unwound from around the disc keeping the string always tight. Also
draw the tangent and normal to the obtained curve at a point 100 mm away from the
centre of the disc.
