SANGGUNIAN DRAFT ORDINANCE NR _________

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 6 AND 7 OF ORDINANCE NUMBER


838 OTHERWISE KNOWN AS AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING THE OUTER
LANE OF THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY FROM THE CITY POBLACION PROPER
TO BARANGAY STA. LOURDES IN THE NORTH AND BARANGAY IRAWAN
IN THE SOUTH CITY OF PUERTO PRINCESA AS PUBLIC UTILITY VEHICLE
AND MOTORCYCLE LANE AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS
THEREOF.

BE IT ORDAINED by the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Puerto Princesa City, in


session assembled, THAT:

SECTION 1. Paragraph 2 and 3 of Section 6 of Ordinance No. 838 is hereby


amended to read as follows:

2) PUV's and motorcycles may use the inner lane temporarily as


acceleration lane and/or to overtake another vehicle, thereafter they shall return to the
outer lane. Likewise in intersections and/or street corners, they are allowed to enter
the inner lane when they will turn left to enter another thoroughfare. They are allowed
to enter the inner lane fifty (50) meters or one hundred (100) meters away before
reaching the intersection. Depending on the traffic situation: One hundred meters away
when the lanes are heavily congested; fifty meters away when traffic is not heavy.

3) All motorcycles with engine displacement of less than 400 cc


shall occupy the left side portion of the outer lane and must maintain a
distance of one (1) meter or less away from the separation line between the
inner lane and outer lane to avoid being bumped or sideswiped by fast moving
vehicles running on the inner lane.

SECTION 2. Section 6 of Ordinance No. 838 is further amended by adding


paragraph 7 to read as follows:

7) Private tricycles and all other three-wheeled vehicles are


likewise covered by this Ordinance, hence shall use the outer lane.

SECTON 3. Section 7 of Ordinance No. 838 is hereby amended by increasing


the penalty of the violation to read as follows:

SECTION 7. PENALTY. Public utility vehicles, motorcycles and


private tricycles to include all three-wheeled vehicles apprehended for violating
this Ordinance shall be fined with ONE THOUSAND PESOS (P1,000.00) for
every violation committed.

SECTION 3. EFFECTIVITY. This Ordinance shall take effect fifteen (15) days
after publication in a newspaper of general circulation in the City of Puerto
Princesa.
