4 System start-up and operations
SAFETY NOTE! Before start-up of the system it is important that the user manual is
read and understood. Only qualified personnel are to operate the system.

A Shore Power Supply (SPS) system consists of the following sub-assemblies:

 Input circuit protection (not required on all models)
 Frequency converter cabinet
 Isolation transformer
 Output protection

The 1200kVA SPS can supply power for vessels with 440V and 230V with frequency from 50 to 60 Hz.
The SPS can easily synchronize with the ship’s generators without disturbances or blackouts.
Relevant voltage and frequency can be selected and adjusted from the frequency converter cabinet.

The 1200kVA SPS requires 690VAC 50/60 Hz 1050A supply.

Output powers delivered from the SPS are 440V 60Hz 1574A / 230V 60Hz 630A

For storage purpose, the system needs a 230V 16A supply. This is for heating and de-humidifier to
prevent corrosion and damage to sensitive equipment inside the SPS.

The 1200kVA SPS is extremely flexible with regard to paralleling with other voltage sources, either
other generators or multiple SPS units. Parallel load sharing is achieved using frequency and voltage
droop profiles programmed into the system. This allows the SPS to share power with other systems
without the need for any additional communication signals. In addition SPS of different power
ratings can be paralleled, with each one delivering the same percentage of its rated power as
required by the load. (This needs to be commissioned by service engineers from
Frekvensomformer.no)

If the SPS shall be used for other voltage and frequency than 440/230V 60Hz,
Frekvensomformer.no need to verify capacity and program the SPS for the actual purpose.
