THE EFFECT OF VARIATION OF CMC Na CONCENTRATION AS

GELLING AGENT ON PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF

ANTIINFLAMMANTORY GEL OF MORINGA
LEAF EXTRACT (Moringa oleifera Lam)
(Sitti Hikmatus Syarifah)

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of variation of CMC Na
concentration as gelling agent on the physical properties of anti-inflammatory gel
of Moringa leaf extract (Moringa oleifera Lam). Research design used is One
Shot Case Study. The active ingredients used in this study were Moringa leaf
extract obtained from the results of maceration with ethanol 70%. In this research
there are 3 formula with different concentration of CMC Na that is 3%, 4% and
5%. The results of organoleptic test showed that the influence of variation of
CMC Na concentration influenced the shape and did not affect the odor and
color. Result of viscosity test and spreading test of normal distributed data with
significance value (p>0,05), followed by One Way Anova test with significance
value (p<0,05) which mean there is difference to viscosity and spreading power.
The result of pH test is not normally distributed with significance value (p<0,05),
followed by kruskall wallis test with significance value (p>0,05) which means
there is no difference to pH. Homogeneity test results from the three formulas
showed homogeneous gel preparations. Conclusion of this research is variation of
CMC Na concentration as gelling agent influence to form orgonoleptis, viscosity,
and spread data. but does not affect the organoleptic odor and color and gel
homogeneity. Of the three formulas no one meets the good gel physical properties
test.
