In this course, participants focus on several leadership area skills required to effectively lead teams, including
modules on behavioral styles, coaching and developing teams.

This three day interactive workshop is a mixture of activities, exercises, self-assessment and role-plays in

Facilitating Effective Meetings

DESCRIPTION
Facilitating Effective Meetings is a one day, classroom workshop providing opportunities to learn, develop
and practice facilitation skills in a variety of different environments. In the workshop, learning comes to life
as participants more fully understand what effective facilitation is and how it helps achieve meeting results.
Participants will learn and practice all the key elements of effective facilitation, including developing meeting
objectives, selecting and using facilitation tools, building an agenda to reach meeting goals and managing
people and conflict in meetings.

BENEFITS OF ATTENDING
Participants will learn tools and tips that are needed to plan and facilitate a meeting and how to follow-up
once the meeting has been held. The learning will be immediately applicable during the remainder of the
GE Oil & Gas University Program and back at work.

• Develop effective facilitation skills for meeting leaders and neutral facilitators at both face-to-face and
virtual meetings

Model. They will apply the knowledge they gain from the Communication Process and spend time learning

through the use of a tool called Interaction Styles.

This one day interactive workshop is a mixture of activities, exercises, self-assessment and role-play in small
teams.

This course focuses on furthering the development of the skills and knowledge that will support participants
in demonstrating the critical behaviors of influencing. The learning and tools are applicable immediately and

DESCRIPTION
This two-day interactive workshop is a mixture of activities, exercises, and practice delivery, some of which
are videotaped for personal review. Participants will focus on preparing effective presentations and practicing
the delivery of a presentation in various business settings. The target audience for this course is anyone who
is required to make business presentations for any reason. The course will be a good starting point for those
who have never presented before and will help experienced presenters improve or refresh their presentation
skills.

BENEFITS OF ATTENDING
The primary objective of this course is to build the personal skill and confidence of each participant to be able
to present with confidence going forward. Benefits include being able to strengthen your presentation skills

This course covers a number of topics related to the energy market and the economic principles which
regulate it, including:

DESCRIPTION
This course relies primarily upon lectures and discussions, using case studies for illustration, and consists of
four main topics:
• An introduction to market-based environmental protection
• Carbon markets (including the Kyoto Protocol)
• Market-based approaches for renewable energy systems and energy efficiency
• The international environmental framework for energy (i.e., employed by multilateral institutions such as
the UN, World Bank, etc.).

Participants will gain an understanding of how economics is employed to address environmental concerns,
and of how their companies can respond to governmental and international environmental policies within a
market context.

DESCRIPTION
The course presents, through interactive lectures and hands-on sessions, an executive summary of all concepts of the oil and gas E&P
business.

It analyzes the contractual framework in which the activities of the E&P chain are carried out and the whole decision-making process
followed by managers to analyze risk and assess value. It highlights the role of all the experts and managers in an oil and gas company who
contribute, through teamwork, to creating and managing the E&P value.

The lecture requires the active participation of all attendees, who are asked to play various roles: technical expert, economist, project manager,
lawyer, banker, shareholder, policy-maker, decision-maker ... When challenged about their decisions regarding various scenarios, participants

DESCRIPTION
The lecture briefly states on what is behind the “unconventional hydrocarbons” denomination, explaining the
difference with conventional reservoirs.

It then focuses on unconventional gas reserves, addressing the production of low permeability formations
(shales, tight reservoirs, coal), with particular attention to shale gas and shale oil production issues.

The hydraulic fracturing and fracture mapping techniques are presented using both laboratory tests and field
examples; state-of-art field production and development are also introduced. The discussion also touches on
environmental and economic impacts.

Participants are faced with short exercises and audience participation throughout the course.

DESCRIPTION
The course consists of a 2-hour lecture about the machine maintenance theory (which focuses on heavy duty
gas turbines, steam turbines and centrifugal compressors on the first, second and third day respectively).
The lecture covers maintenance time scheduling for different applications (LNG, pipeline, process application,
re-injection), a description of the activities performed during maintenance (minor, major, combustion, hot gas
path) and the components criticality (shaft, pads, seals, etc.).

Modularization Insight

DESCRIPTION
The course is divided into two parts: design & project management.

The course is based on a presentation on some the most challenging topics (i.e. Design Phases) which are
drilled down based on experience acquired by GE Oil & Gas; the speaker will be supported by photographic
material and one short video.

BENEFITS OF ATTENDING
Participants will get a full understanding of both the advantages and the challenges of modularizing
turbomachinery units, such as GTG and GTC, in order to make the best choices at the beginning of a project
(conceptual/feasibility study level). On top of this, the attendees will be able to understand the role of the
customer, which decisions a customer has to take and when in order to facilitate the design and actively
contribute to the success of the project.

DURATION
The course consists of one day, divided in two parts: design and project management

OBJECTIVES

Oil and Gas Product Familiarization

DESCRIPTION
This course provides an insight into the processes of the oil and gas business, as well a description of the
main technical characteristics of the machines, the equipment and their main applications.

Individual entry and final test will rate the participants’ improvement and growth.

The course is structured around the hydrocarbons value chain, starting with exploration and ending with
distribution.

Interactivity will be dramatically high, with the trainer constantly involving the class, asking the team to
answer guided questions in order to proceed step by step in the understanding of the oil and gas world.

During this path, participants will be introduced both to the processes and the technologies used in the oil
and gas industry; particular care will be dedicated to the emerging “new oil and gas” (Shale Gas, Oil Sand,
Micro LNG, CCS, EOR, ORC) .

BENEFITS OF ATTENDING
The lecture is designed to overcome the complexity of the subject, simplifying concepts while providing an
exhausting, accurate yet clear overview of the oil and gas world.

Pipeline Integrity and Inspection

DESCRIPTION
This course is intended to provide an overview of pipeline integrity and to introduce the main concepts
relating to pipelines and their assessment. The course starts with pipeline design and will guide attendees
through the design process, describing how pipeline integrity is built in at the design stage. The next stage
describes the defects that can be introduced into a pipeline; both during manufacturing and in-service,
concentrating particularly on internal and external corrosion and corrosion control. Once the defects have
been identified, attendees will study the best methods for inspection, assessment and repair of the defects.
The course will be a mix of lectures (illustrated with examples), individual exercises, group case studies.

BENEFITS OF ATTENDING
Although focused on pipelines, by attending this course the participant will understand the principles of
asset integrity management. When correctly applied, these principles can ensure that an asset can perform
its required function effectively and efficiently whilst protecting health, safety and the environment over the
whole lifecycle of the asset.

DURATION
Two days

OBJECTIVES
The aim of this course is to provide the attendees with a basic understanding of the issues relating to oil and
gas pipelines and their integrity. Following the course, each attendee should be able to:
• Understand the major elements of pipeline design and the differences between the design codes
• Recognize the effects of the pipe-manufacturing route on pipeline integrity
• Identify the key pipeline degradation mechanisms
• Select and apply appropriate assessment criteria for pipeline defects
• Understand risk assessment methodologies and the pipeline integrity management processes
• Understand how defects are measured in-ditch and recommend repair methods for pipeline defects

Reciprocating Compressors Fundamentals

DESCRIPTION
The course will give the students an overview of reciprocating compressors, starting from typical applications
to thermodynamic principles and components.

One and one half days will be spent in class, discussing the following subjects:

• Reciprocating compressors applications


• Thermodynamics - basic theory
• Mechanics theory - forces and loads
• Compressor and auxiliary systems main components
• Hypercompressors for LDPE plants

On the second day, the class will move to the workshop to visit large compressor assembly and testing areas.

At the end of the in-class part of the course, students will take a test with questions on the material seen
during the course.

BENEFITS OF ATTENDING
Students will receive the basic knowledge to understand the functioning principles, the international standards
and application limits for reciprocating compressors.
