The ‘Trident 2’ Dewaterer is a mobile screw recovery twin bucket wheel dewatering
unit. It can produce 1 or 2 grades of sand at a maximum production of 150 M.T.P.H.
(US 165 U.S.T.P.H.) and is designed to work in conjunction with the Commander
Range.

Note that these are guideline figures as there are many different applications and the
variables within these can affect tonnages achieved.

The ‘Trident 2’ can be driven from the Commander coupling or alternatively from it’s
own (optional) 15 HP electric/hydraulic powerpack. The machine has been designed
to comply with all CE requirements.

In general, the machine is designed with a major degree of versatility, i.e. maximum
retention of fines on one hand; through to agitation and maximum disposal of fines on
the other.

Bucket Wheels:

14 off buckets 2.6m (8’ 6”) diameter, bucket volume is 0.117m3. Twin
bucket wheel’s fitted with ‘quick release’ perforated plate panels for
draining off water and ease of maintenance.

Variable speed control 0 – 3.3 RPM. High capacity twin bucket wheels
maximise the collection and drainage of material, producing 2 grades of
product if required.

Fines Recovery Screw:

2.06m (6’ 9”) diameter x 3.1m (10’ 6”) long. Variable speed (0 – 5 RPM)
control valve. Hydraulically driven – used effectively for pushing the
sand towards the discharge buckets.

The screw is contained in a settlement tank fitted with a tailings discharge

trough at one end. A series of adjustable discharge weirs, 40m (132ft)
situated around the settling tank enabling silt to flow out to pond’s,
effectively reducing silt content in remaining sand.
Chutes:
Input and discharge chutes are fitted. Discharge may be a single chute for
one grade of sand or two chutes for two grades and are designed to feed
onto ground mounted T4026 or T5032 stockpilers.

Input chutes have a ‘dead box’ effect to slow down the sand and water
entering Dewaterer thus reducing turbulence.

Powerunit:
The ‘Trident 2’ may be driven from a Powerscreen coupling system
hydraulically, or by a self-contained (optional) 15 HP electric/hydraulic
powerpack as an option.

Transport:
The ‘Trident 2’ Dewaterer is fitted with a solid single axle, towbar, and
twin road wheels and is fully mobile. It is also fitted with 6 retractable
jacking legs to facilitate portability.

Solution In

Lets say sand is washed through a 5 mm screen and becomes a solution with water
into the bucket tank of the Trident. It may look as follows (fig.) and I shall split it into
3 sections just for explanation. The actual parameters are not as accurate or defined.

75 micron

The basic requirement is to remove as much of the water as possible from the sand
and also to control the amount of silt
(- 75 micron) in the finished product. The sand enters the trident dewaterer at the
bucket side and most of the course sand (1) is taken away by the buckets, drained and
discharged. The rest of this
sand then floats in suspension to the auger tank. The courser of this sand, (2) sinks to
the bottom and is removed to the buckets for discharge by the auger screw. The silt,
(3) then floats away to the customers ponds. Now imagine a water flow of
approximately 3500 l.p.m.flowing over a “weir” or edge of the trident. As the tank in
the trident is approximately 1.5 m long and 1m wide, the water would flow over a
weir of 4 m. this water would have a certain velocity and certain height. (fig b)

Fig (b) Fig (c)

Imagine however if you could make the same amount of water flow over an edge of
40m. The velocity of the water is drastically reduced, as too is the height of the water,
this is so in the Trident II.
What we have done is taken a length of 40metres and squeezed it into metres like so.

This means that the turbulence in the tank is reduced, the fine sand is restricted from
flowing over the weir an is therefore retained in the tank, and now only the silt is
removed.

How a Trident Dewater works;

Release and Retention of Fines

Maximum retention of fines can be obtained when all the discharge weirs are
adjusted to the water level. This allows the water to flow slowly over the weirs
which enables the fine material to settle in the tank. When this has been
achieved the fines will be carried forward to the bucket wheel via a deep flute
fines recovery screw.
The adjustable plate between the bucket tank and the settling tank should be
raised to the water level to force the fines down into the tank where they are
trapped by the screw and picked up by the bucket wheel.

Release of fines

When the adjustable plate between the bucket tank and settling tank is lowered
then this allows water a free flow to the settling tank resulting in a more rapid
release of fines. The same effect may be obtained by raising sections of the
discharge weir above the water level. This will cause the water to flow faster
over the remaining weirs thus removing a greater quantity of fines

Six Point Water Injection System

The six point water injection system may be turned on to agitate the water and
float of more fines if necessary.

Water flow Control

The water flow rate is an important factor, as a material with a high percentage
of fines to be removed, will require a high volume of water. The water flow
rate is determined by the tonnes per hour required, and by the percentage of
silt in the sand to be removed. The water flow may vary between 500 and
1100 g.p.m.

Bucket Speed

The speed of the bucket wheels will be determined by the T.P.H. of sand to be
produced. Always select a speed that allows each dewaterer bucket to be just over half
full of sand. “The more material in the dewaterer bucket, the better it will drain and
discharge”
