Music Lesson Plan

Grade/Level: 6th Guitar Duration: 30 minutes Topic: Recognizing parts of the


guitar

Materials Needed for This Lesson:


 Guitar for each student and teacher

 Students will be able to identify and label all the parts of the guitar

LESSON ACTIVITIES
Introductory Activity: Anticipatory Set
 Students will be able to pick up and remove their guitars from the case with proper care.
(Previous lesson dealt with removal and care of the guitar)
o Time allotted: 3 minutes

Body of the Lesson


 Students will repeat after me as I point to and name the different parts of the guitar.
o Plan for 100% engagement: Make sure all students has a guitar in hand and is
actively participating by repeating after the teacher.
o Modifications/Accommodations: If someone can’t see or hear me as I speak, I
will move them closer or I can move around the room as I point out the different
parts.
o Formative Assessment: Having the students repeat after me and point to the body
parts of the guitar as I call them out.
o Instructional Strategy (type of learning or teacher role occurring): Repetition
o Time allotted: 7 minutes

 Students will respond vocally as I point to different parts of the guitar, naming the body
part of the guitar I am pointing to.
o Plan for 100% engagement: Get all students involved. If a student is unsure, have
another student answer and then come back to the original student and let them
answer the same question.
o Modifications/Accommodations: I will move around if a student cant see which
part of the guitar I am pointing to.
o Formative Assessment: Having the students call out the name of the body part of
the guitar as I point to it.
o Instructional Strategy (type of learning or teacher role occurring): Repetition
o Time allotted: 5 minutes

 Students will play a game of “Simon Says”, where they will take turns being “Simon”
and calling out different parts of the guitar while the other students have to respond by
pointing to that part of the guitar
o Plan for 100% engagement:
o Modifications/Accommodations: I will move around if a student cant see which
part of the guitar I am pointing to.
o Formative Assessment: Having one student call out the name of the body part of
the guitar and then seeing if the other students are able to locate it.
o Instructional Strategy (type of learning or teacher role occurring): Fun game
o Time allotted: 15 minutes

Concluding Activity (final activity of the lesson that that pulls together all of the concepts from
the lesson in a musical success experience)
 Students will take a quiz that will require them to label the different parts of the guitar.
o Time allotted: 5minutes

 If time allows, students will quiz one another on different body parts of the guitar.

 Assessment Activity/Assignment/Method: At the end of the class period, I will have
been able to walk around the room and check that the students are understand and being
able to label the different parts of the guitar. The students will also turn in a quiz at the
end of class that shows their understanding of the different parts of the guitar.
