1. Epidemiology is ‘the study of the distribution and determinants of health related


states or events in specified populations, and the application of this study to the
control of health problems’

( a ) What are the distributions of the disease ?

( b ) What are the factors determined for the disease occurrence?

2. Epidemiological study is to support the approach required an understanding of


the incidence and prevalence of the disease in the community.

( a ) What is incidence rate?

( b ) What is prevalence rate?

3. The goal of epidemiology is to limit disease, injury and death in the community
by intervening to prevent or limit the outbreak or epidemic of disease and injury.

( a ) What is an epidemic?
 Epidemic means outbreak which is a widespread occurrence of an
infectious disease in a community at a particular time.

( b ) What is an endemic?
 Endemic mean restrict which is disease that is restricted to a certain part
of area and does not spread to other area.
