Page 2 FM Global Property Loss Prevention Data Sheets
1. OLD TYPE
These pages illustrate old type automatic sprinklers that are likely to be found in service. The illustrations
and the accompanying notes help to identify such sprinklers and to determine whether a particular type found
should be left in service or replaced. The sprinklers are arranged in alphabetical order by manufacturer. Each
type has been classified as serviceable or obsolete.
DEFINITIONS OF CLASSIFICATIONS
Serviceable. A sprinkler no longer manufactured but which has a good record and can be depended upon
for further service if clean and in good condition. It may or may not have been approved.
Obsolete. A sprinkler no longer manufactured and which cannot be depended upon for further service. It
should be replaced with one of the presently approved standard types. It may or may not have been
approved.
2. STANDARD TYPE
These pages illustrate standard automatic sprinklers which are not listed in the current Approval Guide. The
sprinklers have either been superseded by other types or issues of the same make, or their manufacture
has ceased. The illustrations with notes help to identify these sprinklers which are likely to be found in ser-
vice. The dates indicate the period during which they were manufactured and listed in the Approval Guide.
The sprinklers were all approved while they were being manufactured. They are all serviceable, i.e. they have
a good record and can be depended upon for further service if clean and in good condition.
