1.0 Introduction
1.1 Definition
1.1.1 We live in a world of technology, a world where cell phones, Smart
phones, Android phones, and Touch Screen phones make it easy to
reach someone with the touch of a button. And then there is social
media is websites and applications that enable users to create and
share content or to participate in social networking. Social media
includes popular networking websites, like Facebook, Instagram and
Twitter. Also, social media is an outlet to let people know what is
going on in your world and to find out what’s happening in theirs
1.2 History
1.2.1 The first recognizable social media site, Six Degrees, was created in
1997. It enabled users to upload a profile and make friends with other
users. In 1999, the first blogging sites became popular, creating a
social media sensation that’s still popular today.
1.3 Example
1.3.1 Instagram
1.3.1.1 Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger launched this popular
image-sharing app in October 2010, but the first photos went
live a few months prior in July. The app initially let users
upload, edit, filter, and share photos, but the team added
videos, hashtags, DMs, a web feed, inline advertising,
comment filtering, zoom (finally in August 2016), and other
features over the subsequent years.
1.3.2 Facebook
1.3.2.1 Launched on Feb. 4, 2004, as a site specifically for Harvard
University students. Founder Mark Zuckerberg had
effectively created for the school’s faculty and staff to
connect and share profiles with one another.

1.3.3 Youtube
1.3.3.1 The website grew rapidly, with almost 20 million monthly
visitors by the summer of 2006. Users could quickly and easily
upload and share video content with friends, and it was an
especially popular outlet for teenagers.
1.3.4 Snapchat
1.3.4.1 Stanford students Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie
Brown came up with the idea for an ephemeral photo app in
2011, but they called it Pictaboo (ever wonder why Snapchat’s
logo is a ghost?) and it never got off the ground. After some
arguments over patents and equity, Spiegel and Murphy gave
Brown the boot and changed the name to Snapchat.

2.0 Problem Statement


2.1 In modernization era, gadget and human cant be apart, and when we have the
gadget, of course we have social media. Social media is a handy tool when used
properly, but it also can cause a lot of problem when not used efficiently.

3.0 Objective
3.1 To investigate the cause of addiction of social media.
3.2 To identify the effect (positive and negative) of using social media.

4.0 Significance of The Study

4.1 To keep in touch with friend are doing


4.1.1 Not only keeping tabs on your friends and loved ones, but also for
staying in touch with people with whom you have less frequent
contact.
4.2 To stay up-to-date with news and current events
4.2.1 There are many groups that students can join through online
platforms, that are related to their course of study, demographic,
school, environment and much more.
4.2.2 For example, joining this group on Whatsapp, Twitter, Facebook and
others will help the students to have access to quality information as at
when needed.
4.3 To fill up free time
4.3.1 In leisure time, student can fill up their free time for searching in
social media whether it for study or just want to check out the latest
news.
4.4 To share opinion and routine activities
4.4.1 Social media is the one of the platform to share and confess your
opinion freely.
4.5 To research or find products to buy
4.5.1 Online shopping is trending lately. Using social media, we can get
what we want easily.
4.5.2 Social media helps to enhance student academic performance and
increase their knowledge through data and information gathering.
When students are been given an assignment in school, they go
through various online platforms to gather information so as to find
solutions to their assignment.

4.6 To meet new people


4.6.1 It helps to bring together two or more people, where they can share
their problem, which it can get solve by their fellow colleagues.
4.6.2 For example,if a student’s finds out that he or she is having a problem
in a particular course, he or she can open up through chat and finds a
genius who can provide a solution to the problem
.

5.0 Scope / Limitation of the study

For this task, we only focus on student in UITM Shah Alam which is consists female
and male.

6.0 Previous relevant studies

7.0 Methodology of the data


7.1 We will study about the addiction of social media among University students by
making questionnaire on various topic related to the addiction.
7.2 The questionnaire based on the frequency of time consumption, the reason of
using media social and the most popular among students.
