Answer the following:
1. (20 points) Compare the following modes of procurement: (i) Design-Bid-Build, (ii) Design and Build, and (iii) Management contracting.
Devise your own set of criteria (use a maximum of 5) for comparison. Examples are (1) ease of management, (2) completion time etc. Explain why you selected each one. Present your answers using a matrix. Use a maximum of 1,000 words.
2. (50 points) You are consulting for a company that is looking into either (1) purchasing an existing 20-storey 5-year old building that isn’t LEED-certified or (2) purchasing land and constructing its own green building for use as its headquarters. The acquisition team is not well versed with LEED-certification requirements.
A. Make a concise document to the acquisition team on the benefits of a green building. Use a maximum of 500 words.
B. Devise your own set of criteria (use a maximum of 3) to compare options 1 and 2. Present your answers using a matrix. Use a maximum of 1,000 words.
3. (30 points) The Building Code is a document showing a comprehensive set of standards for building structures. It is an interesting document to read for builders and non-builders alike.
A. Enumerate 6 items in the Building Code that fascinates you. Explain why.
B. Identify 3 items not found in the Building Code that should be included. Explain why. Use a maximum of 1,000 words.
