RECOURSE TO BIO-MANURING: GOING BACK TO THE
ROOTS
Bio manuring has been an indispensable part of agricultural practices since Traditional epochs.
Although prevalent from time immemorial, its importance is surfaced in the contemporary age
due to the multiplicity of roles played by the same. Besides acting as a nutrient source and
cleanser of soil contaminants, it endures to improve the physical, chemical and biological
properties of the soil, thereby holistically improving the crop performance.

Bio-manure is being viewed as an effective alternate to the harmful by-products of the Green
Revolution, i.e, Chemical Fertilizers. This paper makes an attempt to analyse the detrimental
consequences of Chemical Fertilizers in light of Martin Heidegger’s ‘Conception of
“Technology” and Its Harmful Effects’ and further peruses the substitution of Bio-manure in the
vacuum created by the discard of Fertilizers and Pesticides.

Furthermore, a detailed analysis is produced of the model of agriculture adopted by Sikkim, in

order to be declared as the ‘First Fully Organic State’ of India. Also, it focusses on the means
and methods evolved by Padmashri Award Winner, Subhash Palekar to overcome the issues
being faced in the agricultural production in the State of Maharashtra, thereby educating millions
about the modern day organic farming techniques. It also focus upon problems faced by
developing countries like India to convert bio degradable waste into bio manure and use it in
farms. In the end, the paper concludes by propounding certain solutions to overcome the ever
mounting problem of soil degradation and crop ineffectiveness.
