I am writing you on behalf of domestic violence victims. Some of the major needs for
this particular population are funding, more private organizations, access to information, access
to counseling services, and access to safe housing. Domestic violence victims are at an increased
level of vulnerability due to the unpredictability of their safety. This population has the right to
feel safe and the community should offer as much support as possible.
In order to offer support in the best way possible, domestic violence centers need
funding. Currently, there is only one domestic violence shelter in the largest county in North
Carolina. Unfortunately, the Southeastern Family Violence Center is unable to provide safe
housing for every victim that needs it. I am hoping that you will advocate for this population by
increasing the funding available for human service agencies in North Carolina. One way you can
assist this population is by supporting the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act in
December of 2018. This advocacy strategy will allow victims of domestic violence to have
access to safe housing along with an abundance of other resources. Your continued support for
this policy is greatly needed. The community appreciates your service and I look forward to
Sincerely,
Katelyn Locklear
