CHAIN RELAY

Chain Relay is an obstacle game that involves teamwork and cooperation as a team hence, it is
game that is usually played during team building activities. It is played by two teams with equal
number of players per team.

MATERIALS NEEDED:
Plastic Cones Balloons

Hula Hoop Garter

Card Board Box

MECHANICS:
1. The class will be divided into two or more groups with equal number of members.
2. For the first obstacle of the game, members of the group shall be paired by two’s in
which a rubber band would be used to tie one foot from each member of each pair,
linking their feet together. Each Pair also needs to link their arms together.
3. After the facilitator’s go signal, each pair must proceed by passing between the cones
in diagonal manners, creating a zigzag pattern from the starting line up to the last
cone. After passing through every cone successfully, the pair return to the starting
line by passing through the cones in the same manner as they did when the game
started. The pair must return to the starting point where another pair coming from
their team is waiting.
4. Upon reuniting with their teammates, the pair must pass the garter band onto the next
pair. This part of the game will continue on until the last pair of each group.
However, there is an added step for the last pair per group; the pair needs to bring the
hula hoop, situated beyond the last cone, to their group members (who are waiting in
the starting line) in order to start the second obstacle.
5. Once the last pair returns back to the starting line, the group must form a straight
horizontal line with the members holding hands with the person beside them to form
one solid line. The group must pass the hula hoop from one member to another,
starting from the first player, until the hula hoop reaches the last member. In order to
finish this round, the group must do this method five times.
6. After the 5th round of the hula hoop chain, the group must once again form a line
where the starting point from the first round was situated to prepare for the final
obstacle.
7. The last obstacle will be the most exhausting part of the game as it will test the agility
of the group. After the group falls in line, each member must hold onto the waist of
the member in front of them.
8. At the starting point, there is a bag filled with balloons which have corresponding
points written on them. The balloon is randomly placed within the bag and the group
would have no quick way to pick which balloons to take. The goal of this last
obstacle is to get many balloons from the bag by getting them one at a time and then
placing them inside the box that is placed in the area within the finish line of the
playing field.
9. After the balloons from the starting bag run out, facilitators would count the number
of points that the group garnered by looking at the corresponding points written on
the balloons.
10. The team with the most number of balloons wins the game.

Note: Breaking the chain will have consequences in which the group would have go
back to the starting line in order to continue the game. In certain cases where 2 or more
teams get similar points, the team who has the finished the obstacles faster than the other
teams will be declared as the winner.
CHINESE GARTER
Chinese Garter is a game that will test the players’ flexibility, balance and coordination. This
game is a classic street game played by Filipino children.

MATERIALS NEEDED:
 Garter (around 3 yards)

MECHANICS:
1. There will be two groups per game with an equal numbers of members each.
2. The facilitators will toss a coin to determine which team will be the “it” and the playing
team.
3. During the game, two of the facilitators of the game shall serve as the “posts” to stand on
opposite sides while holding the end of the garter.
4. Each group will assign a representative to play for each level.
5. The twist of the game will be: The group shall form a line while the team representative
is crossing over the garter. As they cross over he/she will hold a ball.
6. If he/she crosses the garter without getting tripped, the playing team will receive 1 point.
If the player also successfully crosses the garter without dropping the ball, they will
receive an additional 1 point.
7. As soon as the player crosses over the garter, he/she must pass the ball to the next player
and so on. The level of the garter increases starting from Level 1 until it reaches Level 5
with each member’s turn. It would only be after the team’s last member crosses over the
garter that the level of the garter shall resume to the first level.

Notice: The duration of the game will only be 2 minutes per team. The winner will be based on
the team who will receive the highest point. In case of a tie, both teams will play another round
and the team who will finish the levels first (without getting tripped and dropping the ball) within
another 2 minutes will be declared as the champion of the game.
