I have been offered a job @ Doha with a monthly salary of 24,075 QR + incentive of approx.
2500 QR per month. I do not want a fancy lifestyle, simple living (1 or 2 BHK apartment in a
decent low cost areas) with basic food, travelling & entertainment.
How much QR can I save in a month ?
Can someone please suggest

Dear Deepak,

I am living in Qatar for past 2 years. From my experience, 13K Qrs + incentive is very good
package. You can have good savings in your pockets for sure....
#deepak kala on Feb 21, 2017 :
I am being offered a salary package in Qatar (Doha) which details like this:-

Final package will be 13000 plus 2000 incentive. Gratuity, Flight tickets, Accomodation and
family medical will be over and above salary.

Is this a good package to for considering the cost of living in Qatar? Can someone guide me
what I would be saving? I am currently working at a salary package of 20 lacs here in Delhi, so
need what shall be saving if I move with my family to Qatar.

Any other points that need to be clarified with the employer (related to the package) which I
need to take up?
Please provide your valuable comments.

Whilst Walter Trueman has some valid points, I am a woman working regularly in Qatar and find
many of his points absolutely ridiculous. Clearly Walter has had a bad experience but do not
allow one person's bad experience with their employer and/or local government put you off this
amazing location where many companies offer amazing opportunities and an excellent life.

#Ahmad on Jul 31, 2016 :
Really astonished to see the comments made by Mr. Walter. Living in Qatar for almost five years
but never came across 90% of the things he mentioned (The rest 10 % is for their big SUVs and
road rage and climate I do second him for that).
1) The First Thing
I am not the PRO from Qatar government neither I was told by someone to reply you but
reading such a biased and negative information about Qatar encouraged me to do so.

2) The Second Thing

Yes everyone is sensitive to the things which they love most and care about. Taking criticism
positively is essential part for grooming further and they are doing it. The CID never pursued
you even after writing such things about Qatar.

3) The Third Thing

Will you kindly elaborate you are comparing the Rape cases with which country or Even which
continent. As per my research and knowledge it is far less than the so called world powers and
established democracies. The respect for women is of prime importance in their culture.

4) The Fourth Thing

The law is equal for everyone but you are right due to language barrier the Arabic speaker
always have an edge. But as per the law there is no discrimination. All Qataris are not angels
and it never be possible for any society but my experience they are much better than most of
the others.

5) The fifth Thing

You are right about the weather condition. Qatar can’t do much for this they are really unable to
relocate themselves. There are laws which prohibits to do work in afternoons, and for ratings
please go through the website http://www.numbeo.com/pollution/rankings_by_country.jsp

I do agree there are short comings in the system but not to that extent as elaborated by Mr.
Walter. Not necessarily that everybody will have the same experience. He might came across
the 95% of the bad people here and I might came across the 95% of good people. But keep that
in mind "what goes around comes around"

good salary to live a decent life in doha. I will move from karachi. Kindly advice.
#Walter Truman on Feb 15, 2016 :
The first thing that you need to understand about Qatar is that everything you read or hear
about is completely bogus. Everything is made up and Qatar inc pays a lot of money towards
PR, everything is a PR stunt.
The second thing is that the Qataris are VERY sensitive to any criticism of their country. There
has been many cases where expatiates have been jailed and thrown out of the country simply
for accidentally saying something that we all know about in public. We only hear about these
people from our embassies. There is actually a law against any bad news or press against
Qatar. The media and all on-line social is monitored very carefully by CID 'agents'. the fact that
there is law against even the faintest whisper of criticism against Qatar should scare you from
going there. Why would the government of Qatar feel the need to jail people who wishes to
express there opinions about their country. Because it they didn't, no one would end up going to
Qatar, not even for the so called good money they provide. This is very important point. Qatar
pays high salaries to some expatiates, mostly because they have no other option as
experienced expatiates wont go there for almost all the money in the world. Just don't do it.
The third thing you should know is that Qatar is not safe. There are numerousness cases of
rapes reported to police. Most of these cases are shooed of by the police and the ones that are
logged are never reported officially. Sooooooo many women have already learned that it is
pointless to go to the police, they just just tend to leave the country with their emotional
baggage. Theft is also rampant in many areas. So if you enjoy knowing that your girlfriend or
wife gets serenaded by a fat stupid Arab, then this is the place for you.
The fourth thing is that all law is catered to protect Qataris 1st, then other Muslim people. If you
are an expatiate, Muslim or not and you have any issue with a Qatari it is almost always
certainly your fault. The Qatari people have become extremely arrogant because they have
created a system which bends to their whims, this includes even legal issues, and while they
pretend to be high and mighty on the religious side, they are the BIGGEST Hippocrates in the
world! They will rape your wife, steal your money, drive you out of the way with there SUV and
even if you have proof, they will just deport you before you make a stink of things. Thats really
how it is.
The fourth is how Qatari people and others drive on the road. Qatar has the highest road
accident rate and road death statistics in the world. THis in itself, makes Qatar a very unsafe
place. I have witnessed fatal accident after fatal accident, people being mowed over on the
road. It comes down to arrogant LAZY driving. THey drive the biggest SUV that they can get
and then these inexperienced lazy arrogant people drive. They do no work and they are so
bored that the only sport they have is to intimidate everyone else. In fact when they get into an
accident and you go to the traffic department it is always your fault, always, and every expatiate
knows this. They will simply just buy another one after the insurance fixes it up and then leave
that one. That is there attitude and thats why they are reckless killers on the road.
The fifth thing that you should know is that the climate here is REALLY inhospitable. The
temperatures outside make Qatar very hostile to supporting life. Just 20 minutes under the sun
without water and you seriously risk dying from dehydration. Countless laborers are taken in to
the hospitals every day for heat stroke, this after they are used to working in that heat. I feel
extremely sorry for these people. When they come here after being promised a better deal,
there passports get confiscated, and they have no means of escaping. They are basically forced
to toil outside until there is really nothing left of them. The heat in this barren desert is really the
most catastrophically awe-full thing about Qatar. This then on top of every other other point
makes this HELL on earth! If you ever read anything good about Qatar its because they paid
them to publish it. After all that is how PR works! Qatar Sucks balls people!!!

Also the air pollution is the worst in the world, only beaten by Pakistan. There are gases from
the Oil refineries that blow over Doha. There is construction and dust and pollution
EVERYWHERE.

There are some positions which offer attractive salaries, but these jobs are scarce. Most of them
are through agencies and 90% of the people who get these deals, get them while outside of the
country. It seems that they need to lure people to Qatar somehow. But! Once you are in Qatar
you can almost forget to get one of these positions, there are very few career agencies in the
country.
Then there is the whole Kafala system which means that you cannot even leave the country
without your employers permission. I would say that as a professional expatiate you could
perhaps make it work here but you need to be getting at least 90,000 QAR pm. This will be
enough for housing, schooling, etc. Don't be fooled because this is not a lot of money in Qatar,
you will end up not saving anything of that, and as mentioned before these posts are few and far
between. If you come here looking for work you are trapped and will be so for a very long time,
don't do it!

Recently after the oil prices went down, there was a wave of layoffs. It is ironic just how quickly
this happened. The people who came here gave up their lives to live in this place and just like
that they get retrenched because the government has no respect for anyone else but Qataris.
From my experience and knowing people, most people just cut their losses and move on, never
taking the time to write there experiences as I have with this article. I have experienced this with
client after client after client.

I was trapped in Qatar for 2 years, trying to save enough money to get out and to be able to
support my family for a few months. For two years in this HELL HOLE.

It is for this reason that I feel someone really needs to shed some light and explain to expatiates
considering coming to Qatar, to really look again. Go there first, in summer an see for yourself
before you make a decision that you WILL regret, unless you are on of the 5% of people whom I
have met who does not hate it here and wishes they didn't come here and got trapped. These
are always the people who get one of those very rare cushy positions, one that will most
probably also be up for review a few months down the line. This is what I have seen with
countless of my clients and You will see for yourself, or hopefully not.

Hi,
I got a job offer with 29000QAR per month. My break up is
Basic salary 12000
HRA. 9000
TRANSPORT. 8000.
Am planning to move with my wife n one daughter. I prefer to stay in decent apartment n like to
put my kid in Indian school. How will be the expenses n how much I can save apart from
expenses.
#Qatar Guy on Jan 19, 2016 :
If you are single, 5000 QAR + accommodation and transport would be a good offer. But if you
are coming here with your family, you should consider a salary of 8000 QAR or more.

I came here with my family 7 years ago and the company that I am working with provides all our
needs including schooling and transportation. Salary in Qatar is tax-free. Qatar is a nice place to
live with. Almost zero crime. The only thing that you wouldn't want here is the shooting 45 - 50
degrees C temperature during the summer. Summer starts from July to late November. Cold
season starts from December to late April. Transition starts from April to June. You should watch
the road while you are driving. Some people here don't follow speed limit.

#Abdulla on Dec 05, 2015 :
It depends on how you want to live, what you should know is that accommodation and schools
are expensive. if that is included in you're package then 4000QR per person should be more
than enough.

Hello all asking about salary and education prices in Qatar. I'm 17 and my father earns roughly
35~45K QAR a month. My school fees were in excess of 65K QAR annual +2k QAR for clothes
for school and 4.5 K per term bus fares. Our villa has a monthly rent of 23~30K QAR.
Depending on what you are looking for Qatar can be a convinent place for a good price.
However I couldn't see you living off 2~3 k QAR a month easily at all.

Don't too excited about the attractive base salary. You need to focus on what other expat
benefits and compensation, otherwise you probably lose.

Hi charlie,

Offer seems legitimate from what you are saying. QR 69k is a lot of money to spend and save
here.

Just check one thing though. You said you were going as your uncle's dependent. Dependents
usually include only wife and children. Even parents are not included. So definetely check that.

All the best for your and your uncle's future.

Best Regards,

Vijay
#Charlie on Nov 06, 2014 :
My uncle got offered a job with construction company building for the 2022 World Cup. He is in
an inspector position. Salary offered is $19000 USD per month (or approx. 69,000 Riyal per
month). This is not a labour job, but higher level up. He gets per diem for $3000 USD for rent
living on a compound which the company covers. He signed employment offer tonight, now
waiting to hear back. They are paying him 2 months salary up front...with 75% being given
before he leaves Canada, and the other 35% given when he arrives and gets settled in Doha.
We want to make sure it is legit, so this exit pass thing mentioned below makes sense. They
give him 4 weeks vacation each year that is paid, and allowance to travel, so i would assume he
gets an exit pass as in contract it tells him it is their choice when they give him vacation. It is a 5
year contract. Just want to know if this sounds legit. I am good with figuring out scams, as I do
this on my spare time for people; but everything checks out. It is a major company building up
Lusail City for World Cup 2022. Any info would be great...I see lots of great info already. heard
there is a large ex-pat community there, so that is good. I am going with him as a dependent, I
am in school and do all my school online and will not be working while there until I get my
degree, then I will be teaching English as 2nd Language. Any info, lemme know! Thanks.
#Vijay on Nov 02, 2014 :
Hi. I am working in Doha for the last 2 years. Hope the following info. provides clarity on some
questions raised here:

1. Rent: For 1 BHK - 3000 to 4500 in an ordinary but decent area like Matar Qadeem.
2 BHK - 5000 to 7000

Much more expensive if the accomodation is near the center of the city (like Al Sadd)and in Hi-
class areas like West Bay & Pearl Qatar.

Further, rent is expected to increase during the next year and till the FIFA 2022 world cup.
2. Food: Mostly we cook food at our home. For a family of 2 we incur groceries expense
between 1500 to 2000 QR per month.

If food is purchased from outside, then it depends on the type of food and the restaurant:

a. Hard rotis - Usually preferred by construction workers etc. Very cheap. For 1 QR, one might
get 4 or more pieces (again in Matar Qadeem area).

b. Decent hotel - Anywhere between 10 QR to 100 QR per meal. Mcdonalds meal is between 15
to 30 QR on an avergage.

c. Hi-Class hotel - No idea.

3. Transportation - Mostly cars. Some bus facility is also available, but buses are few and one
needs to stand for quite sometime.

Different cars are available for each budget range. Second hand cars from QR 10,000 and
above to Brand New cars.

Lots of questions have been posted regarding whether salaries of QR 1000 - 2000 are
sufficient. I would say, they are barely sufficient as even if a worker lives on a shared
accomodation and eats cheap food (which is hard), the expenses are quite high here. In fact,
Doha is one of the costlies places in ME.

Further, expenses are expected to rise in the near future. So bear in mind all these when you
are making your decisions.

For a couple with no kids, Salary of QR 15000 and above is ok to start with. But with kids, they
need to factor in children's education which is quite costly here.

One final piece of advice, which is the most important. Before coming here, make sure the
company/contact through which you come here are credible. As many might be aware, this
country has an Exit pass system, which means if you want to leave the country (for anything
including leaving for vacation or quitting the job), the employer must give you the pass,
otherwise you cant leave the country. So unless you are 100% sure about your job/contact dont
jump in haste.
