1. As a Kent Business School student you are studying to become a business professional. All
successful businesses use performance management or appraisal to enable employees in the
business to align their work to the business’ strategic aims. This improves the chances of success for
both the employee and the business.
2. To improve your chances of academic and personal success Kent Business School at Medway has
developed a performance management and reward system to help you in your learning.

You have been set three SMART targets which you will need to achieve by the end of this academic year
(Week 24). SMART targets mean goals that are:

 Specific
 Measurable
 Achievable
 Realistic
 Time Related

These targets relate to your academic and personal development and will assist you in:

1. Succeeding academically
2. Developing Transferable Skills
3. Improving your employability

PROCESS

AUTUMN MEETING
1. On the reverse side of this paper you will find your SMART targets for this year. With your
Academic Advisor discuss and agree these targets.

SPRING MEETING
2. At your Spring Academic Adviser meeting your Academic Advisor will review your progress and will
note if you are ON TARGET or offer feedback as to how you may achieve your uncompleted targets.

END OF YEAR
3. At the end of the year your progress will be assessed and recognition made as follows:

Achievement of 90% attendance and 60% grade Certificate of DISTINCTION and £10 AMAZON
point average VOUCHER

MEETING 1: AUTUMN TERM

SMART TARGETS

1. ATTENDANCE: by the end of this year you are expected to achieve a 90% lecture and seminar attendance record.

2. ASSESSMENT: by the end of this year you must aim for a minimum grade average of 60% for assessment.

3. VOLUNTEERING / EMPLOYABILITY POINTS: By the end of this year you should have achieved a minimum of 30 volunteering
hours or employability points
