Introduction:

The main purpose why we are a Christian is for getting salvation. If there is no salvation, no need to be a
Christian or the followers of Jesus Christ. Therefore we can say that the main theme of Christian is
salvation. Because of this, there is a different opinion and controversy about salvation and redemption
in may denominations. I will try to point out each of the meaning of salvation and redemption and their
significance, the relationship between them in this paper.

The meaning of salvation:

In general, salvation can refer to any kind of deliverance, preservation, or liberation. In theological
context, it means deliverance “from the power and effects of sin”.1 Salvation is deliverance, to save is to
rescue or to deliver someone from calamity, loss or destruction.2 The word salvation is the theme of the
Bible, and the theme of every gospel sermon. The Hebrew and Greek word for salvation imply the ideas
of deliverance, safety, preservation, healing and soundness. Salvation is the great inclusive word of the
gospel, gathering into itself all the redemptive acts and processes; as justification, redemption, grace,
propitiation, imputation, forgiveness, sanctification and glorification. In the Bible, the words has both
secular and spiritual meanings.3
