The Sri Krishna Mutt witnessed huge crowds over Sunday and Monday on the occasion of Krishna

Janmashtami. The annual festival is of significant importance in Udupi and is a tradition which dates
back to a number of years.
Devotees gathered in large numbers to take a part in the festivities and obtain the blessings of the
Lord.

The day of Krishna Jayanthi saw people attend special pujas. Vidyadheesha Thirtha Swami of Paryaya
Palimar Mutt oversaw the ritual of ‘Arghya Pradhana’, and invoked the blessings of the presiding
deity.
The Vittal Pindi function was a major highlight of the celebrations here—the Lord Krishna idol was
placed on a golden chariot and taken around in the form of a procession. Before that, the
ceremonial pot breaking, or ‘mosaru kudike,’ as it is known, took place. Devotees dressed in folk
costumes clamoured to break the pots containing milk.
The procession ended with the submersion of the idol in the Madhwa Sarovara pond.

Worshippers and tourists alike, jostled for space with huli vesha performers who obliged people with
selfies. The traditional tiger dance was performed on stage by different troupes. The crowd were
treated to spectacular moves, and many braved the hot afternoon sun to catch a glimpse of the
dancers.

Sweets were in no short supply as the seers distributed ladoos of different varieties. Prasadam was
also made available to the public.
