Pharmacology – ANS Pharmacology

Tan, John Angelo B.

Section D, Subsection D5
Reflection
Autonomic Physiology is one of the hardest modules I’ve ever encountered. Now,
combining Pharmacology and Autonomic Nervous System? I can’t imagine the difficulty this
module will give me. It’s a good thing I studied in advance and listened to the lecture well,
because it helped me a lot in understanding different concepts involved in this module. The
mnemonics that were used helped me in retaining the information that I will surely use in the
future. I also appreciated the use of visual aids in the lecture, it keeps the discussion interesting
and it helped me in understanding some of the concepts that are not easily understood without
visual help.

The most important thing for me in this lecture is the degree of antagonism between the
sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. If you think about it, without this relationship
between the two, we won’t survive at all. A balance must exist for our body to function well. This
is where Pharmacology is important. We can augment the activity of the system to achieve our
goal for the patient. Over-all even if this module is hard, I enjoyed learning new things and I’m
excited to apply what I learned in my practice.
